VA patient can't get correct diagnosis.?
I am 52, have trigeminal neuralgia, type 2 from a double root canal, and have been through the ringer at the VA hospital. I cannot count the number of drugs they have put me on. I walked around like a zombie for 3 years, suffering the side effects of drugs that I have found out through research should never have been prescribed together. I have finally got myself off all of them except for Ambien, which I'm working on and Coreg, which I'm scared to stop.
My problem is that when ever I lay down, my heart starts to pound. This also happens when drifting off to sleep and when waking up. Possibly connected with this, I still have a deep tremor which feels centered in my chest. When I get up to walk, it starts. It also wakes me when I'm sleeping. Ativan is one of the drugs I just got off of. It has been 6 weeks so it should be out of my system. The shaking is so worrisome that I want to call the VA and ask for something to stop it. I hope someone will recognize my dilemma and be able offer some solid advise. A high ranking doctor at the VA recently told me that if I continue to receive treatment there, they will eventually kill me! After the last three years, I believe it. Thanks.
PS..Have also stopped Vicodin and Oxycontin as they had little effect on my pain level and I'm hoping to get neurological surgery outside the VA within the next few months to relieve the terrible pain in my face.

My deepest understanding to you - I was diagnosed with atypical TN in April/May of 09 after trying to get dentist or endo to pull all my teeth since Nov. of 08. Tough to diagnose and hard to deal with. I am fortunate that amitriptyline keeps me under pain control with the night episodes (told worse when I lay down due to blood flow) using vicodin. Try to go easy as do not want to develop too much of a tolerance.
You need to clear out all the meds you can, but you already know that. I do not have the heart pounding but my resting heart rate had increased by about 20bpm with the meds. The med hang-over can be tough, so I try to take everything at night. Told would stay in SYSTEM once built up from usual usage? You may find some interesting info and support from a web site that I use: http://www.fpa-support.org/ You will find a lot of people who understand. Good luck with surgery, I am atypical and gamma or other options have poor results, some are even worse. Also check the site for info on an MD at Duke who's' having good results. Good Luck.

merely being a veteran, even a conflict veteran, does not mean you get existence time well being care from the VA. The VA is there to handle veterans with provider appropriate injuries and ailment's. to not cope with every person who became a veteran., The VA has desperate to permit veterans with out provider linked injuries and ailment's to coach for VA well being care. yet they have strict regulations that should be met, and quite a number of alternative diverse categories for those veterans. presently the VA not accepts classification 8 veterans into the device. And it feels like that's what your husband has been rated, a style 8 veteran. in case you desire existence time well being care, then you incredibly serve 20 years in the protection stress and retire.
