Hunger Games fans, Did you know this about Peeta...?

So, being bored the other day, I was messing with Google translator and I typed 'Peeta' in and had it detect the language and meaning. Apparently, in Estonian, Peeta means be considered. In connection with the Hunger Games, Peeta wants to be considered by Katniss as a boyfriend and such. Do you think this mean of Peeta was purposely used by Collins or is it just a waayy cool coincidence?

The common name for the plant "katniss" is arrowhead. Surprise!

In conclusion, of course it's on purpose! Collins loves to do this with her names. Thresh. Like threshing in the farm equipment sense cause he's from the agriculture district.

Rue is a double whammy. There is a plant named rue that is symbolic of regret:

and the word itself is a synonym for sorrow.

There is significant nameus behind all Collin's names, I say! :O

You just have to figure it out.

I think the author did an amazing job connecting the dots on this name. All of the names are significant in some way. I love these books, and I really hope that if it becomes a series of movies as so many books have of late, that hollywood doesn't mess it up too much. Can't wait for MOCKINGJAY!!

Interesting fact. I actually think Collins did her research before applying the character's name. I don't think its much of a coincidence.

I think it's a cool coincidence in a way as I always thought of his name as a reference to bread (as in pita) it's been a while since I read it but wasn't his family bread-makers or something of the sort...

  • Sounds like a coincidence to me.
