People have so many questions, because there is so much material out there about Hitler - thousands of books, movies, documentaries, etc. - That the information seems contradictory or confusing. Hence, the large number of questions.

Well, there is no doubt that he led a regime that killed millions upon millions. There is no doubt that he is one of history's biggest dictators and killers.
Besides that, however, he was one of the greatest strategists in history. It took 3 super-powers to beat him and he took one of them down with him. The British Empire was so weakened after the war that it fell apart easily. Their empire might have lasted a few decades longer had World War II not happened.
Germany had virtually no colonies and yet it made countries many times larger than his tremble.
I think the main fascination with Hitler is not with his twisted philosophies, but with his performance as a military strategist.
Is he any worst than the Roman Emperors? They conquered, slaughtered, and enslaved millions as well. They also thought their race, culture, and religion was the best. People are still fascinated with them, why shouldn't they be a bit curious about the Great Dictator?

We teach the past so we don't repeat it and the last thing anyone wants is a repeat of the Holocaust. I think the scariest part about Hitler is that he convinced an entire nation to commit genocide. One guys hatred caused millions of murders and it makes people wonder How could this happen?

That he was able to charm a whole nation while killing massses of their neighbors and most likely friends. That he was able to portray himself a perfect when he had been denied entry to the austrian army as he wasn't perfect. That he was able tocontinue with invading countries and completely breaking the versailles treaty while Britain just stod by.

So far as the UK is concerned it is because, very misguidely, the Government has decreed, via the N ational Curriculum, that history teaching should concentrate on the 20th century..
