Where does it say in the bible that Jesus went to hell for three days before ascending to heaven..?

A bunch of people say that Jesus went to hell for three days before ascending to heaven.

I read ALL of the verses that have anything to do with that last night and didn't find anything?

I'm trying to find proof in the bible, but I'm not finding any.

If there is a verse that says that, could you please give it to me, or are they just assuming these things.

I don't want bullshit answers.

I'm a christian, 1000000%, don't say anything idiotic if you can help it.

Thanks guys(:

    Here are references:~

    Ephesians 4:9-10

"Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things."

    1 Peter 3:18-20

"... Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, by which also He went and preached unto the spirits in prison, who formerly were disobedient, when once the long-suffering of God waited in the days of Noah ..."

    Matthew 12:40

"For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."

It was three days and three nights His body was in the tomb. That is the time period before He physically arose from the dead.

All the antichrists are whingeing to you, saying there was nothing in the Bible about it... of course they will say that because they CANNOT understand it without God.

The Bible does not declare that Jesus when to hell for 3 days.

The problem is that hell, which just means a covering, has become a place of eternal torment because that is how the catholic church frightened the members in to paying indulgences.

What the Bible does declare, is that Jesus would in the tomb for 3 days and nights.

    Jesus declared –

    Matthew 12:40 KJV

For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

    This is confirmed in –

    Matthew 16:21 KJV

From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

    Matthew 17:23 KJV

And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.

    Matthew 20:19 KJV

And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.

    Matthew 27:64 KJV

Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.

Mark 9:31 KJV For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.

    Mark 10:34 KJV

And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.

    Luke 9:22 KJV

Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.

    Luke 13:32 KJV

And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.

    Luke 18:33 KJV

And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.

    Luke 24:7 KJV

Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

    Luke 24:21 KJV

But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.

    Luke 24:46 KJV

And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

    1 Corinthians 15:4 KJV

And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

The Bible does not say that Jesus went to hell, it is just misnomer propagated by the catholic church.

"Hell" is the grave...also known in the Bible as 'Hades" or 'She'ol'

It is not a place of torment after a person dies.

To be tormented, one has to be conscious...

    The dead are NOT.

(Ecclesiastes 9:5-6) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun.

Jesus, as a man, was in his grave for three days...he actually was not conscious...he was as if 'asleep'. So was Lazarus.

(Psalm 13:3) Do look [upon me]; answer me, O Jehovah my God. Do make my eyes shine, that I may not fall asleep in death,

    \

Death is likened to sleep, because God can reverse the process...

    We cannot.

(Revelation 20:12-13) And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and scrolls were opened. But another scroll was opened; it is the scroll of life. And the dead were judged out of those things written in the scrolls according to their deeds. 13 And the sea gave up those dead in it, and death and Ha′des gave up those dead in them, and they were judged individually according to their deeds.

    Now, what happens here...

(Revelation 20:14) And death and Ha′des were hurled into the lake of fire. This means the second death, the lake of fire.

    The 'lake' is destruction/elimination.

It is where Satan is going.

(Revelation 21:4) And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

    No death = no graves...

i.e. No death/ no Hades = no graves...

    No one is dying.

i.e. Hades [ Hell] = our grave,,,in the ground or in the sea.

    As for Satan...

(Revelation 20:10) And the Devil who was misleading them was hurled into the lake of fire and sulphur, where both the wild beast and the false prophet [already were]; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

As I said, the lake is elimination...totally.

The Greek word for Hell is Hades. So when Jesus died he went to the common grave of mankind. Acts 2:31 talks about his Resurrection and that he would not be left in hell. Also Jesus in John 5:28-29 has the keys of death and Hades. He will resurrect mankind who are faith full. Sheol is the hebrew word. Psalms 16:10

Get the chip off your shoulder! I could give less of a damn if you are 3 million percent Satanist. I'm an agnostic. But you asked an honest question about the bible and the "tradition", if you will, of Jesus spending the 3 days in hell. I have never seen it in the bible either, and I have also read the book, probably as much or more than a lot of "christians". I don't know where the idea of Jesus spending the 3 days in hell came from, but it's been around a long time and a lot of people probably **think** it's in the bible because they don't read their own damn book.

    Blessings on your Journey!

You will not find such statements in the Bible.

I am not sure, but I seem to remember those words as having been part of The Apostles' Creed from the Roman Catholic Church.

Acts 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Acts 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

Ok, so those people got it in the Apostle's Creed as it's the only source where it says Jesus went to hell:

....I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

    born of the Virgin Mary,

    suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, died, and was buried;

    HE DESCENDED INTO HELL. <-----------

    ON THE THIRD DAY HE ROSE AGAIN;

    he ascended into heaven....

So yeah in the early and ancient days, before Christ. (as of the old testaments)

People were really sinful and really few have fear in God like the early prophets as of Isaac, Jacob, David. So what happen really is there's no savior at that time meaning many went to hell and really few were chosen by God. So, God send Jesus to save those who were in hell and to save and forgive them and unto now we were saved but still, there's a saying that Jesus will come in reign and divide the good and the bad as was written on the Revelations. No one really still knows and understood everything actually but some says this reign is the Death.

It is in the Catholic Bible only. Protestants and other denominations removed that Scripture from their Bibles.
