Why there are border disputes between the states in India?

We have such disputes between two of our neighbour countries and now also inside India too. The latest one is between Maharashtra and Karnataka. What is the reason of such disputes within India?

It is just the fall out of divisive politics. The leaders of early post Independent India did everything to bind people in a spirit of national identity. But later politicians started dividing people in the names of region, language and communities.

People don't want to share even natural resource like water with the neighbours. Parties are also keen on money spinning resources along the state borders which would attract more trade interests and the resultant ''collections'' to the rulers.

Often some issue is taken up to start an agitation by local aspirants for power, who want to come to lime light. Govt steps in to ''resolve'' the non existent issue and in the process gives unmerited publicity to the power mongers.

Like that, there are many wrong reasons for the cause of border disputes, claim for separate statehood etc.

It is mostly political. Such issues are routinely brought up before elections , national, regional or local so that each political party can get some mileage from the agitation. Also, local leaders who want to become prominent during elections, kindle issues. An equally disturbing situation is the incompetence of the central and state govts. to put down the agitations with a firm hand, also due to political reasons. How a land of about 830 villages will make a big difference for the already affluent Maharashtra state, I am unable to apprehend. Did the people of this area ask for the transfer? Who and which political party will take of the families of the people who die during the agitations?

The reason is the extra opportunity to make money from the new territory that will accrue if the protest and fight is successful.I wonder whether these politicians have ever asked the people of a particular region in dispute as to whether they would like to continue under the existing government or prefer to be ruled by the government of the state claiming the territory.Have a Nice Day.

Well, I don't live in India but I'm Indian. It's so sad we fight amongst ourselves, but it's mainly for power and money because this is done by politicians. India has to take a greater stance and vote for people who are not corrupt at all...right now people are voting for people who are the LEAST corrupt. It shouldn't be this way. Change it before our growth slows down.

Because we think only about ourselves. While thinking about ourselves we do not think about others'.

We are not united we just only show off that we are united. That is why Britishers and other invaders were successful in dividing our country.
