Maybe when you use shampoo you are putting too much on and not rinsing it well enough. When your hair is thick it is very easy to do this. I would go and see your doctor and he will give you a lotion to get rid of the sores. I would also change your shampoo and find one that agrees with your skin. I had a problem like this and after treatment from the doctor I started using Paul Mitchel shampoo and conditioner and have never had the problem again. I think you probably scratch and keep infecting over and over again. Go and see your doctor.

well you might have to see a dermatologist, but it's possible that your skin might be having a reaction to your hair products, I'm assuming that you use shampoo and conditioner that has a lot of chemicals in them, try switching to a natural organic brand. Its actually very common with 1 in 4 people having chemical sensitive skin around the head because of the sweat produce. I haven't had puss or anything but i'm one of the 1 in 4. My skin peels away and bleeds whenever I use chemical products, so I'm not just making a random guess. But still, you should see a dermatologist cause it could be something more serious

are you scratching them? the deep black could just be dried blood if you have accidently scratched them...
it could be psoriasis of the scalp, they show up thick and scaley, they hurt and are itchy. does it look like you have bad dandruff? if not then it could be something else.
