photography negatives into computer prints?

I have many old photo negatives up to 40 years old. Other than getting prints made, is there any equipment available that will allow me to insert my negatives so that I can directly transfer the image into "My Pictures" on my computer and then print it off as I would normally do for a normal stored picture.

Yes, you need to get a Film & Slide digital scanner. They work very easily by putting your slides into the tray on it (or a strip of old negatives). It is connected to your computer via a USB hub and very easy to use. They range in prices from about Aussie $75 upwards. Hope this helps☺

Get a film scanner or a flatbed scanner with a negative/filmstrip

    attachment.

Alternatively get a lab to transfer them to a cd/dvd

If you have a normal flatbed scanner, you could scan them in at a high resolution [so they get bigger without losing quality], then use Photoshop or even MS Paint to invert the colours and crop the rest of the negative off. I think that works. :)

You CANNOT use a flatbed scanner as one answer suggests unless it is one with a slide/negative scanning facility. Black and white negatives will come out 'soot and whitewash' and far too small to do anything with. I know, I tried it once, before I knew better.
