Will the US Govt step in and REFUSE to let BP drill off the coast of Alaska as is currently planned?
BP wants to drill TWO MILES DEEP off the coast of Alaska and has proposed dumping a 2 mile high pile of gravel and make their own island in the ocean and then drill "ONSHORE". BP is obviously maneuvering AROUND the Ban on Offshore Drilling. Will the govt let that happen or step in and stop it?

A BP spokesman said last week Wednesday that a company drilling project off Alaska will likely be delayed until next year after calls for increased state and federal scrutiny in the wake of the Gulf Coast oil spill.
Spokesman Steve Rinehart said that in the interest of allowing for comprehensive agency reviews, BP LLC felt it best not to try to stick to a firm drilling schedule. The company had hoped to drill the first development well for its Liberty project this fall.
Rinehart said BP believes in the project and will cooperate fully with any government review, with the hope that drilling can begin next year. He said the company has not yet applied for drilling permits. o_O

It such an obvious skirting of the rules. They want to make it less safe and just put some gravel around it. I think that banning off shore drilling was a bad PR move, but the government should review all current off shore drill sites and ban proposed drilling sites and do further review.
This particular one is a terrible idea and must be stopped.

The government's attempt to ban offshore drilling was vetoed in federal court. They are going to appeal.
