  • How does one get back into the game after a long term relationship?

I broke up with my girlfriend of just under 5 years, a few months ago. The break-up was surprisingly smooth and I wasn't all that hit emotionally. However, I've been finding it hard to get back into the dating game. I have opportunities to do it, but none of the girls I encounter seem to meet my expectations. I seem to want to the comfort and establishment that I had in my long term relationship and I now tend to nip new relationships before they even start. Any advice?

  • Why are religions generally so preoccupied with sexuality?

This has always confused me. Reading about the horrible things this sentiment breeds: a couple was stoned to death in Mali for premarital sex, people are denied proper education about std's and contraption, homosexuals are assaulted and denied rights, and many other bizarre and inhuman behaviours. Why? Why do religious codes feel compelled to make sexuality a bad thing, to make certain acts punishable by death?

  • Stuck on a finance assignment can anyone give me a hand?

    A) It is possible that an IRR does not exist for an investment opportunity.

    B) If the payback period id less than a pre-specified length of time you accept the project.

    C) It is possible that there is no discount rate that will set the NPV to zero.

    D) The internal rate of return investment rule is based upon the notion that if the return on other alternatives is greater than the return on investment opportunity you should undertake the investment opportunity.

I want to disregard B because it seems true. I'm having trouble picturing situations for A and C. And D seems right but the wording has me a bit confused. Can anyone help me out.

  • When calculating a payback period are costs that occur after the initial expense factored in?

The question I am doing states that a mine spends $107 million in start-up costs. The mine will generate $13 million per year for the next 12 years. To comply with regulations the company will have to spend an additional $17 million to return the land back to its original state. The is no discount rate or cost of capital given.

So, I'm confused as to whether I should calculate the pay back period for just the original 107 million which would be 8.23 years, or for the total cost over the lifetime of the mine 124 million (9.54 years)?

Or is there something that I am missing altogether?

  • Birth control pill might cause prostate cancer, is the IUD a better option?

My partner and I have been talking lately after we can across an article the establishes a link between prostate cancer in men and the use of the BCP. Among the other side effects of the BCP, she is thinking that it might be better to switch to an IUD, but we are unsure. The BCP has prevented pregnancy over the last year and a bit, and I have read that IUDs sometimes fall out, especially with women who have never given birth. What has been your experience? Is the switch to IUD beneficial? Is it a justified concern to be worried about the hormones in the pill?

  • Should I be concerned about an irregular growth on my ear lobe?

I think I may be over reacting, but I just want some assurance that I should not be concerned. I have noticed over the last few days this weird lump on my ear lobe. It feels like a hard lump with a tail. It's quite abnormal and I can not find a similar structure on the other ear. It's not really noticeable by looking at the ear, only by feel. What is this phenomenon?

  • How does one find the rotation angle given a matrix?

I have been having some trobule with this. I know that theta = [costheta -sintheta]

    [sintheta costheta]

But I can't figure out how to find theta given a matrix, r r [-.5138772077.8578637511]

r [-.8578637511 -.5138772077] I thought that all I had to do was say costheta = -5.138772077 and solve for it. I solved for cos and sin and got values of 2.110494639 and -1.031098015. These numbers are incongruent and neither are apparently correct. I thought maybe I should find a value for tan but that too didn't work. Clearly I am messing up somewhere. Can someone explain how?

  • Should I wear my military uniform to Remembrance Day Services or go in civilian garb?

I'm trying to decide which is more appropriate. I don't want to sound superficial, and I don't want to highlight myself; so I am thinking of going in formal civilian wear.

  • How do you find the shortest distance between skew lines?

I have been having trouble with this all day. I have x=6−11t y=9−9t z=−3+5t as P, and x=−225−13 ty=436−3t z=480−3t as Q. I have been trying to figure out what is a logical way to do this. I found a webpage that showed me how to calculate perpendicular distance, and if I did it right it should be (42, 98, -84)t. But I am at a loss. How do I go about calculating this?

  • The tangent to the curve y = x−3x^(-1) at (x, y) = (1,−2) meets the x-axis at (a,0) where a =?

I have been trying to figure out what exactly this questions means. I can find the derivative of the y, it's 1+3/x^2. However, I don't get what this question is asking me to solve for.

    Thanks.

  • I believe my iPhone has been taken, is there anyway to track it?

Today, I picked up a phone call on my way to work. When I got to work, I had to make another call right away. However, I could not find my phone. I looked around for it but I still can't find. I tried calling it to see if I could hear it right. I just recently tried again, but this time someone picked up. Said "hello" and I asked if they had found my phone. They then hung up. I tried back, and was told that I had a wrong number.

Is there anyway, I can track the location of my phone. Do I have anyway to get it back?

  • Iceland - a victory for participatory democracy or trying to eat its cake and have it too?

I've been following the events in Iceland with much curiosity. I am interested in the idea of not choosing to take on private debt and standing up for sovereignty. The way Iceland has gone about constitutional reform also seems like a great model.

But, I was arguing this point with a friend. And he said that it was Iceland that initially supported these transactions, so therefore this crisis was probably their own fault. This just happened to be the easiest way out.

What is the case with Iceland? Is there model one to be followed by others, or a show of irresponsibility?

  • How to deal with a problematic child?

I run a free summer program for children 6-12, and I am having a difficulties with one of the regular attendees and I was wondering what advice this forum has to offer.

Kiana who is 10 years old, has been a really good spirited child this year and last year. However, in the last 2 weeks, she has become a real handful. She's become really desperate for attention. She complains about activities, refuses to participate, yells, bullies one of the autistic children, and generally attempts to be annoying and disrespectful. I tried to pull her aside and try to talk to her and see what was up, but this result her becoming annoyed and now refusing to talk.

She has a few followers in our group and it is becoming harder to deal with them. More alarmingly, today she made references to suicide, though I doubt she actually intends it, I don't know if I should treat it seriously or as an attention grab.

I don't wish to ban her, but it is becoming one of the only options available. Does anyone have any suggests for constructive ways to deal with Kiana to keep her as part of the group?

  • What is the legality of pie throwing?

So, after Murdoch the Clown took a pie to the face, it got me thinking is this legal?

Is it legal to throw a pie at someone, assuming that the pie is not harmful (made with shaving cream, or whipped cream)? Is it considered assault of some kind, or is it good clean political out rage?

  • Why are the Icelandic people obliged to pay for the Icelandic bank's failure?

I was reading about Iceland's referendum on whether or not pay back the 4 billion or so dollars that the Icelandic banks lost when they crashed. The one thing that I haven't heard answered is why does it fall on the Icelandic people to pay for their banks? Why is that the Government of Iceland now owes England and the Netherlands the money lost by the bank?
