How can I get my academic career back?

Question

Four years ago, I had everything going for me.  I had been accepted as an Honors Political Science student at Roosevelt University.  All my community college courses transferred, save one elective.  It seemed as though, in two years, I would have handily earned by Bachelors and be on my way to Law School.

But, I ran into a spell of bad luck during my second semester at RU.  At the beginning of the Spring Semester, a new room mate moved into our dorm at the University Center of Chicago.  We would later find out that this new room mate had been paroled  from a Residential Burglary charge five days before moving in with us.  Sure as clockwork, he cleaned us out over Spring Break.

My other two room mates and I tried getting some semblance justice out of the situation; but that wasn't happening.  The Chicago Police Department didn't care, the dorm Company (U.S. Equities Housing, fyi) didn't care and Roosevelt University didn't care.  

Long story short, I cracked.  This man new where I lived, where I went to school, the route I walked to and from class and when all my classes were.  He was free to walk the streets of Chicago while I remained a prison within my dorm, a prisoner of my own fear.  I washed out that Semester, lost all of my scholarships and financial aid, wound up on a Academic Suspension and had to return home to get back on my feet.

Three years later, I'm still not back on my feet.  The economy sucks and nobody is too eager to hire someone whose sole accomplishment in life is an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts.  I can't find work, I can't afford to go back to Roosevelt and redeem myself academically, I can't afford to pay my outstanding student loans...I can't even declare bankruptcy and try to get a fresh start.

Needless to say, I'm in a very vicious Catch 22 situation.  Is there anything else I can do?  How can I get my life back on track and finally put this spell of bad luck behind me?

You don’t need a Law Degree to practice law.  What  you need is to pass the State Bar.  Abraham Lincoln only had one year of “formal schooling”  and studied for the bar.

that sucks that you got robbed. i don't understand why you were afraid after the fact either, not sure if your a guy or girl but if it were me i wouldn't of said a thing to the cops and made the burglar disappear if you what i mean. anyway you sound like you have a defeatist attitude towards the situation. you need to get past that and start thinking clearly. if you cant afford the tuition at your old school than switch. to a state school with instate tuition (cheap). fill out a fasfa and get federal financial aid, these days everyone qualifies and especially if your having money problems. getting back into school will stop the collection of student loan payments. getting in should be easy to just about any state school because you have more than 60 hours. put the old **** behind you and finish school. you have to decide if your the kind of person that things happen to or the kind of person that makes things happen. never give up never surrender
