Apparently, nobody here is aware that "French" here does not actually mean French but bad words as when you curse.

There is no exact translation in French but some can do : "Désolé (désolée if you are a girl) pour ma vulgarité" = sorry for my vulgarity.

LOL, they did a couple of times, but mostly they just said "oh...ssssss-ugar!" - it was obvious what they WANTED to say! It was my grandfather that taught us a load of Flemish obscenities before we left to go back to England. He said "now, say this to your mother when you're on the ferry..." or "say this if you hurt yourself" - my mum gave him a mouthful on the phone when we got back, but he just laughed!
