Teach your kids how to love life. Go with them outside in the nature and show them things. Let them listen to good old music to relax them. Spend time with them. Teach them to get what they need and not only what they want. Tell them that it's not good to be a racist and they must respect different people. Let them explore the world without always being above their head. Make them fill safe when they must fill safe but tell them about the dangerous places when they are a little older.

I think the kids must spent like a weekend somewhere away from home with one parent, the next weekend with the other and some weekends with both parents again somewhere away from home.

a good parent does whatever they can to remember that *their child is a whole human being with equally valid interests, needs, and right to respect as any adult*.

a good parent tries to remember how big and confusing this world can seem to those who haven't been here very long, and tries to be a patient, forgiving, and kind guide.

a good parent will take an hour to walk 3 blocks home as their toddler explores tiny bugs, leaves, and pebbles along the way, seeing the joy it gives their little one.

a good parent realizes that they will make mistakes along the way, and aren't above apologizing to their child when they have been less than fair.

a good parent desires, above all else, a child who is happy to be alive. above strict obedience, above priming them for success and independence, is a drive to honor that spark of joyous inquiry that all children have.

When your children are in elementary school, try to be active in their school, but not so much that it looks like you work there! Volunteer on their field trips, it's a great way to spend a day with your child. A good parent shows their child that they are happy to see their child in school and don't think of it as a six-hour day care.

Source(s): Unfortunately, this happened to me. My parents never realized why I was depressed until I showed them a photo album that had pictures of me at school events. All of them were taken by my friends' parents, since my parents were too busy. Then I showed them my younger siblings' albums, which did have pictures of my siblings with my parents. I understood that their jobs were stressful, since they're nurses and all, but they could've just taken at least one day off to see me at school.

I think too many parents nowadays want to be a friend and not a parent. Being a good parent means sometimes being unpopular. It's done out of love, and a desire teach them lessons/values that will serve them as adults.

This probably won't be picked as best answer, but I am going to say that the best parents are the ones that go to sleep latest and wake up the earliest.
