So, now that the BP Gulf disaster is"OVER" will BP write that well off & move on or tap it later when settled?
So, after all this, is BP going to leave that site alone and go elsewhere, hopefully non-Gulf related? How long will the cap hold, and how long will it take for the bolts to rust and break open again? Or will BP wait for the PR problem to expire and then try pulling oil from that site again?

Well I do not think BP will extract what is left or be allowed to but there will be a queue of oil companies waiting to do so.Lets hope the other rigs operating in the gulf are not American built like the one BP leased. If BP are made to leave the gulf thousands of American jobs may go with them.Over half of BP's employees are American with millions of dollars tied up in it's pension fund etc.At least BP are not running and promised to clean up from the outset. The American company (Exxon)responsible for the Alaskan spill appealed several times against the amount they were ordered to pay and it was eventualy reduced to a tenth of the original amount, after some rather dubious dealings.

I think these oil tycoons are idiots that think they could never be wrong about anything. Think about it, the oil leak in the gulf has done and will do tremendous damage to its people and environment. They finally have made progress and what will they do? They plan on sealing the leak with concrete that expands when it hardens. Do they know the exact rate of expansion? No, so they are still planning to seal the well forever. Idiots, why not try to place a pipe over the well to the surface so it could be utilized and not wasted forever. They are Idiots, why didn't they have better more efficient safety devices in the first place? They are rich so they could have afforded modern safety devices. These oil tycoons never plan for anything except for HOW MUCH MONEY they will pocket. Idiots, the lot of them. If they are ever allowed to drill new wells I hope Congress, the Senate, the EPA, and other organization mandate that new safety devices with 100% controllable electronic valves that never fail with backups are installed and checked regularly. I hope the President signs it into law. And by all means necessary, lets get off this dependence on oil, foreign and domestic and SAVE IT for space exploration and the inevitable colonization of space.

The relief wells were close off that particular well for good. However, there is all sorts of drilling going on in the region, tapping on the same pool of oil. A company might just move a few hundred yards away and drill, once the rules and regulations get reviewed and altered.

I would think this well will be plugged for good. But there is no reason BP or another oil company should just leave that source of oil down there. That would be like abandoning an airport after an airline accident.

They tried to bill other companies that have ties in with their company. the co that I work for was billed for part of their clean up efforts.
they will have to be more careful after this one. if they ever have troubles again, they will be forced to give up their oil rights to the other oil business barons.
