Should voting in Australia be compulsory?

I'd rather go to the dentist for root canal work! So should Australians be allowed to register as "conscientious objectors" and be allowed to abstain from voting?

Compulsory voting is really really really dumb. As a whole Aussie's don't really care about politics, they'll either vote for whoever their parents voted for or be swinging voters.

Only a few nerdy aussies hold a political ideology.

nicely one good occasion i grants is that there are some religions that do ban this is followers from vote casting. working example Jehovah's Witnesses are banned from vote casting, yet in the time of the 60s the rustic of Malawi required all voters to purchase 25 cent occasion club enjoying cards and Witnesses have been informed to viola, ruin the regulation and lots have been given raped or killed for this reason. us of a of Islam use to restrict contributors from vote casting too yet Louis Farrakhan did raise the ban in an prolonged time.

I think that it should be complusory because like lacer said, if it wasn't the results would be biased with poorer people perhaps not voting because they need to work that day to earn money to pay bills. This would make all the results NOT representive of who and what Australians want for Australia. Therefore, if we want Australia to show the interests of the Australian public, voting should be complusory.

No. But don't complain about politicians

In the U.S. most of my co workers complain.

At election day no where near the polls!

It needs to be compulsory so all Australians have a say. If it were not compulsory those from poorer backgrounds would more likely not vote.

I am not from Australia, but in my opinion, not voting is a vote of sorts. Sort of "none of the above".

.No it shouldnt, but with the laid back lifestyle in Australia no one would turn up for voting day

    No, it shouldn't.

I think whether or not to vote should always be a choice.
