Why aren't pitchers regularly considered in MVP voting?
BQ: Can Ubaldo Jimenez be more likely to win MVP rather than a Cy Young? Considering there is Adam Wainwright and Josh Johnson for Cy Young candidates.....

The Cy Young Award is generally considered the top honor for the pitcher. It is impossible for a position player to win the Cy Young Award, so it seems unfair to let a pitcher win the MVP.
After the Cy Young Award was created in 1956, only nine pitchers have won the league MVP.
1956 NL Don Newcombe
1963 NL Sandy Koufax
1968 AL Danny McLain
1968 NL Bob Gibson
1971 AL Vida Blue
1981 AL Rollie Fingers
1984 AL Willie Hernandez
1986 AL Roger Clemens
1992 AL Dennis Eckersley
Each of those times, that player has also won the Cy Young. Four of those times, that player won the Cy Young by a unanimous vote.
So to answer your question: There is no way that Jimenez has a better chance to win the MVP rather than the Cy Young.
In fact, the opposite is true: he MUST win the Cy Young to have even the slightest chance to win MVP.

Because people say "pitchers already have the Cy Young Award." I don't think it's fair because in some cases a pitcher can be the most valuable player in the league when they really dominate but unfortunately that's the way most of the writers who vote for the award view it.
Pitchers are eligible for the award and have won it before but it very rarely happens.
Also, if Jimenez wins the MVP he should also win the Cy. If he doesn't end up as the best pitcher in the NL why would you give him the MVP award?

Pitchers usually only play once every 5 games, which is just 20% of the games. But, they usually don't pitch complete games, so that percent is even lower. Relievers pitch in even less.
Regulars play in probably 85%+ of the games, so they have a much bigger impact.
IMO-- Any pitcher is more likely to win a Cy than an MVP

Overall I think the fact there pitchers already have a Cy Young award, its like MVP shuld only be given to batters. But honestly I would find it really stupid if one pitcher wins the MVP while another wins the Cy Young.
Its like saying Jimenez is the most valuable player in the MLB, but Josh Johnson is the best pitcher. Its like a contradiction!!

I think its because pitchers are everyday players like the guys who play a regular position. So the pitchers aren't necessarily gonna impact the team on an everyday basis.
BQ: Its feasible but I wouldn't count on it because winning MVP is a rare commodity for pitchers. If Ublado has any shot of winning an MVP, he'd probably need to win at least 30 games for the Rockies.

Pitchers don't usually have the everyday impact a position player can have. And if they pitch nearly all games as a reliever, then they still only go an inning or so.
BQ: More likely Cy Young.

They are not considered because the best pitchers in baseball only play once every five games, as opposed to every game.
BQ: I think at this point, the Cy Young is Jimenez's to lose actually. 15-1? Are you freakin kidding me?

i think its because pitchers really only make what....like 40-45 starts a year? its easier to vote for a guy who has been in there all 162 games everyday helping his team win. Pitchers can only affect 1/5 of the games in each season.
BQ: i think this majorly depends on the rest of the season and how things go. but that is very possible.
