To remove computer virus, you need to have virus removal software installed on your computer. You can do it manually but you run the risk of deleting important files that make your computer operate. I would suggest downloading AVG's free virus removal software. However, you can use any program that you want.

Turn off system restore. Restart your computer.

While your computer is rebooting, press F8 to bring up a menu of boot options. You must press F8 at the moment just before Windows begins to load. Select Safe Mode.

Once your computer is restarted in safe mode, start your virus removal software. Have your software scan your computer. If your software detects any viruses, select the option to remove computer virus.

If your software does not find any computer viruses, make sure that you have the most up-to-date version and your virus library is up-to-date as well.

Hello, I would suggest Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, which is great at removing Adware and other Malware. System restore will not work because the restore points have been infected. You can either disinfect the computer with the above, or do a clean install.

Notes: Combofix is for removing specific spyware applications. Not necessarily rouge AV. He could also have a trojan on his computer, which is downloading malware. He could have a variety of infections besides the rouge AV, including viruses, so it may not be a good idea to transfer the files, possibly spreading the infection.

    Remove virus:

    Step 1

As soon as you suspect that your computer has a virus, remove your computer from any networks it might be on, as well as from the Internet, so that you don't inadvertently spread the bug to others. Unplug your network cable if you have to.

    Step 2

If you have virus-scanning (anti-virus) software installed, run it.

    Step 3

If you don't have anti-virus software, you'll need to obtain some. If you can't get it from a network administrator or download it from an uninfected computer, you can mail-order it from a retailer.

    Step 4

Start your computer (still not connected to a network) and follow the instructions that came with the anti-virus software.

    Step 5

Keep running the virus-scanning software until your computer comes up clean.

    Step 6

Reconnect your computer to the Internet and check with the anti-virus software's publisher to make sure you have the latest updates. If not, download them now.

    Step 7

After updating the anti-virus software, run it again until your computer comes up clean.

If those programs reported no viruses then they may be right... you may have malware, download malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.com)/ and perform a FULL/DEEP system scan. Also, your problem may be registry clutter, download Ccleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com)./ Open Ccleaner and click on the "registry" icon, click scan for issues, then click fix issues (choose yes for back up registry, click "fix all issues" if asked. It sounds like you have a bug in the root directory. Best bet save everything you really need to an outboard drive and reload windows from scratch. This will get you a stable OS and kill everything.
