Is there any truth to this?

I've heard that simply cutting out soda can help get rid of belly fat. Is that true?

Cutting soda and replacing it with water will help encourage overall weight loss. This is because soda provides calories (along with chemicals that your body doesn't need) and an excess of calories will lead to weight gain. If you didn't change anything in your diet and excercise routine, but simply cut soda - you'd consume less calories in a day. By consuming less calories, you have the potential to lose weight. To lose weight, your body must burn more calories than it consumes.

However, you cannot "spot reduce" body fat. In other words, cutting back on the 7-Up is not going to make you get 6-pack abs. If you lost weight by reducing calories, this would decrease your overall body fat - unfortunately, belly fat is one of the last places to go. You'll lose fat around your arms, legs, thighs and other areas before you lose weight around your stomach. But eventually, you can lose that belly weight - just not before most other areas.

As with anything, there are certainly ways that you can harm your weight loss efforts. If you cut soda but drink a lot of fruit juice instead, you probably won't lose weight because juice has calories. Also, if you're overeating - you may still not lose weight because you're consuming too many calories. That said - if you are overeating but cut out soda, the rate in which you gain weight, will decrease. So you'll still get fat, but not as fast as if you drink a bunch of soda everyday also.

It won't totally get rid of it, but it's definitely a good start. Soda is full of loads of sugar, which turns to fat. Cut out sodas and other super sugary foods and drinks and do some cardio for the best fat burning results. But even just cutting out soda will probably show some results.

Ofcorse. Soda has A LOT of sugar, didnt you know! (: That will affect the body and can cause fat.

Uhk, it also can stain teeth, like prople drinking coffee a lot..

(I drink soda all the time lol) - I guess it really depends on your metabolism.

    I hope I helped (:

Reducing your calorie intake can make you lose fat. But the food you stop does not control where the fat is lost.
