Why do people still quote the Bible as a historically accurate source of information?

*FACEPALM*

Update:

@shooting star: please cite where you are getting this information. The Bible states that humans co-existed with dinosaurs, however this is in conflict with the fossil records.

Aside from the metaphor, miracles, interpretations and prophesies, there are things that are mentioned in the bible that are real; cities, rivers and such. What quotes are people describing as historically accurate and how do you know they aren't?

"The Bible states that humans co-existed with dinosaurs, however this is in conflict with the fossil records."

No it doesn`t. There are lines in the bible that mention large beasts but when you say that means dinosaurs your interpreting it and when you accept someone elses`s interpretation without knowing it`s an interpretation your just being dumb. I like that you source the verses btw; Questioning the bible doesn`t mean you can get away with not providing sources. Most atheists are going to accept that the bible is not historically accurate in many ways because its common knowledge that it's not but the bible is a big book covering alot of things and not all of it is historicly inaccurate so source and reference please.

    Because archaeology proves it is!

    Just one example:

In the book Battles of the Bible, Chaim Herzog, former president of the State of Israel, and Mordechai Gichon, emeritus professor of archaeology at Tel Aviv University, make this point:

“The tactical description of the battles of the Bible . . . cannot be explained by mere inventiveness. It suffices, for example, to compare the campaign of Gideon against the Midianites and their allies, as related in Judges, 6-8, with the battles of the Trojan War, described by Homer in his Iliad. For the latter, any accessible sea shore and a not-far-away fortified town will do nicely as geographic setting . . . Not so the biblical account of Gideon’s campaign. The detailed tactical movements and encounters based on the interaction between specific topographical features and the actions of both friend or foe—over a theatre of war covering some forty miles [60 km] in length—simply cannot be reproduced anywhere . . . We are thus virtually forced to accept the veracity of the tactical narrative of the battles as described in the Bible.”

Now- first you say why are not dinosaurs mentioned in the Bible to try to prove it is inaccurate. Then we show where it says the Bible does mention them- proof of their existence - then now you say that can not be! Because of some man made method of times stamping thing that has proven to be highly inaccurate. You just can't have both ways now! Some say the dinosaurs never exited- I could cite that the word behemoth could be transliterated into crocodile. Thus nullifying your argument altogether.

Some people think it is. These are usually the same people who think the earth is only 6,000 years old and they were probably raised that way and warned that questioning or studying other sources or doubting was "dangerous" or worse. Some were completely deprived of any sort of meaningful education whatsoever. So don't blame them or get mad at them, they can't help it. Unless they're using their own ignorance as an excuse to do harm, in which case they need to smacked down as quickly as possible.

Edit: I forgot to point out that Muslims tend to say the exact same things about Quran. "Most scientifically and archaelogically accurate", etc etc. Then they'll quote dozens of verses and challenge you "how did they know that, huh? HUH?" or use the logical fallacy of "prove it wrong". Or all of the above.

Ask any historian, Christian or not, whether or not the Bible is a historically accurate source of information.

Are you trying to say that fossil records are infallible??

If you would like to see the evidence for yourself, check out the site for Glen Rose, TX.

Glen Rose Texas-Dinosaur Valley State Park, Fossil Rim

Kind of hard to dispute the evidence when footprints of dinosaurs and footprints of man

are side by side. Wouldn't you agree??

For many centuries it has been the only story book available on how we got here!

The Early Church Fathers predicted that Christianity in general wouldn't mind the lack of a direct face to face contact with “God,” like Moses did, as long as they have access to an exclusive book about God. The Bible writers picture God to be so cruel that the idea of reading only the nicer stories about him is the best deal that any Christian can really bargain for!

Because there's as much reason to believe that it IS historically accurate as to believe that any other work of the time is accurate.

Because everything it has ever predicted has occurred. Prove it wrong.

The bible said the earth was round thousands of years before we knew it was in Job.

It predicted Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Alexander the Great, Rome,(Daniel + Revelation) Muslims, the French Revolution, (Revelation) The USA(Daniel + Revelation)

It predicted Jesus, it predicted Cyrus would conquer Babylon and called him by name hundreds of years beforehand we know.

Everyone knows that the bible is the most historically accurate book in the world. Errors? What errors? Who told you there were errors? They lie!
