Is the obsession with wearing Labels a new form of social discrimination ?

Some people contract deep debts because of their "need" to wear labelled clothes, bags, shoes etc.

Does it boost their self-esteem or is it the need to distinguish themselves from others. Thanks for your opinions.

It's to distinguish themselves from others. They have this need to be accepted and viewed as valuable to others through what they have. It's like: "hey that girl has a gucci bag.. wow she must be high class." You can't blame them though. Society judges books by their covers.

I think its their need to be accepted among their friends.

For me, if i were to buy an expensive clothing, it would be because of the quality is better.

Ive gotten some black ankle socks from wal-mart before, and after little use, they started getting torn.

After i ran out of socks to wear, i went and got some expensive black ankle socks from a shoe store, and they still dont have any tears in it.

I think it's the need to fit in with peers, that's mostly amongst younger people But there are some people who buy Name Brands because they just like that type of stuff.
