How worried are you about America's infrastructure? What do you believe should be done?

According to a 2009 report by the american society of civil engineers the U.S. needs to spend 2.2 trillion dollars over five years to get a infrastructure up to par. Of course this report should be taken with a grain of salt seeing as they are probably looking for work themselves but it has become apparent that our roads, bridges, electric grid, sanitation, water infrastructure, railroads, etc. are in need of serious repair.

Do you think an investment of 2.2 trillion over the next five years would be a good investment for the american people?

Update:

I'm just saying that they may have included certain projects in there that may not be absolutely necessary. I do think the report should be taken seriously

Update 2:

I agree G S

We need to fix the infrastructure- desperately-.or we will become a 3rd world nation. We have ignored roads, bridges, water/sewage, levies and the power grid for the last 40 years. In addition, we have fallen behind in high speed rail.

This is the smartest use of our tax money and will temporarily help the economy while the projects are happening. It will be even more beneficial when the economy improves. The infrastructure projects during the depression help fuel the the war economy in the 40's and the economic growth in the 50's and 60's.

Yes it needs rebuilding and modernization. There have been a couple documentaries recently showing the decline of the suburbs and the failure of local government to keep up with the failing infrastructure. The suburbs are going the way of the cities. We are forcing yet another subclass of Americans. Like inner city poor, there will become the suburban poor. Same thing will follow, more crime and drugs.

Yes, spending money to rebuild America is a good thing.

  • I just saw a show about this earlier today. I'm not that worried, our economy will make our infrastructure useless anyway. Once all the old stuff melts away, we can make undersground power lines, more efficient energy sources, and better preserved roads. For now, I say we let it decompose so that when the Chinese finally take us over, they'll be given dust.

I saw the special on TV about our bridges. Scary stuff. That bridge that collapsed a few years back in Minnesota opened up a lot of eyes. Yes, instead of throwing away money loaning it out to other countries who never pay it back, we should take care of our infrastructure.

Over 5 years 2.2 Trillion in waste could be found.

You mean roads and stuff? Isn't it about time we invested in flying vehicles!!

But yes I agree with you. Seriously in need of repair.

Yes and no. The US needs to change it's ways. Democrats and republicans haven't a clue on how to do it without appeasing their constituents.

I think we should pass a stimulus bill for 1.2 Trillion for shovel ready infrastructure jobs and get us back on track..

    Wait a minute....
