Does religion serve people or God? Why do you think so?

I believe that serving people is a way of serving God. We are all God's children and it pleases him that we help each other out.

That's kind of a two sided thing.

On the first side of the coin, I'm sure theists believe that it serves themselves because in almost every religion there is a promise of some kind of eternal life. While I have my own psychological thesis on why this is, that is probably generally what they feel.

On the other side, I do not believe in god, so I can say that you also serve god. In almost every religion that promises something, you are meant to worship your god by all means necessary and retaliate ("spiritually," physically, or mentally) in response to any who disbelieves or promotes any kind of nastiness toward their religions, which are centered around worshiping this person.

An example of that is this: in most promises of heaven or afterlife in religion, you will often find that what you do in heaven is frequently limited to worshiping god constantly until the end of time. That sounds like serving a god.

The idea is that people are supposed to serve God through religion. That got all screwed up in the last 2 decades, when protestant evangelism went mainstream. Now religion is a big business, with a beginning and end in itself.

I say it serves people. I've heard of people that would like to know God on a personal level but religion keeps getting in the way.

Religion serves people. Because God didn't create religion - He has no need for it. I mean, let's be honest here: God's not a Christian, or Muslim, or anything else. Why do we feel the need to label ourselves as such?

Actually our job living at the earth is to maintain the earth so it is not damage (serving the God).

Guiding children to get the best understanding about life about laws (serving people).

God's definition of religion is Romans 10:3, "For they being ignorant of the righteousness of God and going about to establish their own righteousness...." In other words religion is man made righteousness and God says that to Him man's righteousness is as dirty rags. In John 4:24 He says that He is to be worshiped in Spirit and Truth, if religion was worshiping Him this way there would be no denominations of the faith and we would all be in one accord in Christ as the Word demands.

Joseph Smith Mormons, Charles Russell Jehovah Witness and Muhammad, just to name a few whose self righteousness established religions. Smith and Muhammad were fore told in 2 verses warning of angels coming with false messages II Corinthians 11:14 and Galatians 1:8,9 for it was angels that did come to them and with the Muslim expectation of sex in the afterlife proves that Islam serves the flesh when blind hearted sexually repressed young men will blow themselves up to kill innocent people and be called martyrs rewarded with 40 virgins in paradise. What a rude awakening they will have.

Its supposed to be for the purpose of serving God...but too many people today want to do what they want to do and not what God has commanded them to do

religion taught correctley serves all my children beautifuly,they are taught sound morals and ethics,they are taught respect for all that is in the heavens an earth,they are taught all good values,virtues,and bad vices they are even taught all good ediquitte .,what can man teach that is any good?,this world is the way it is because of secular teachers and professors that are worthless teaching how they want things,and not how i want them,what a mess they have caused,and look at the money you pay these forms of satins garbage!,practice the holy rosary,practice makes perfect,we love you all,the holy family.

People, why should god care if people worship him/her/it or not? I like the answer self serving.
