Someone lied to you
If you get a decent HP computer around $500 dollars with windows 7 it will run great. My girlfriend bought one in december and has had 0 problems whatever.
Windows 7 is a great OS and only retards will make it crash O_o...
*EDIT*
Now the below posts do say that HP is on the list of the most unreliable laptops. This may be true, however those sources were from a few years ago. There were issues with the hinge and mobo, as well as a few battery faults. But, believe me they MORE than made up with it by extending the warranty and they came out with a new design and WAY better hardware.

I have an HP desktop with windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit since the middle of February and it's never crashed yet. My wife has an HP netbook with windows 7 and it's never crashed yet. I don't know who told you that but it's a bunch of bull crap. I hate Vista, but I love windows 7

Who ever tells you that Windows 7 keeps crashing, well he or she lied to you. Windows crashing on that computer is the users fault. He or she is probably a heavy user. So, if I were you, I would buy Windows 7 with that HP laptop.

Windows 7 is amazing. If their computer crashes every day, something is wrong with it. I wouldn't buy an HP laptop though, persay, because they're at the top of the "Laptops that break alot" list. Try for a Lenevo, Acer, Toshiba or the most reliable, Asus.

NO. Out of the top 9 laptop manufacturers HP comes in dead last for reliability. If you want something that is going to last look into an Asus or Toshiba.
And try this little test: Go to your search engine and type in "HP laptop lawsuits". I think you will quickly change your mind about buying one.

HP is a good brand and many uses it and windows 7 is a good OS as well, but check the unit by yourself for you to know the real condition of the said computer.

No way it crashes, windows 7 is soo light and fast. It works perfectly for me.
Go for win 7 it's the latest, the fastest and the most stable. About HP laptop check this site http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/store_a... and consider you work type and get someone with good features that you need. don't go for high standards if your use won't need it

Check the dv6z selected edition series. These laptops are powered with quad core processors and Windows 7. Windows 7 is very stable if you protect it with antivirus software.
