why does Mourinho insist on playing Sergio Ramos at center back?

Both are fast and can cross but Ramos can get thru the opposing defense by dribbling

Putting Ramos in centre back is like putting Xavi as striker

They both have the potential to play in differnet posistions but its more beneficial for the team

Xavi passes a lot but doenst shoot a lot

I definately agree with Mourinho. Ramos' runs are great on a La Liga level, but when Real clashes a team in the CL, Ramos can't be allowed to make runs and leave empty space for counter-attacks. Thios reckless play has brought a lot of goals to Casillas' goal through the years and finally Mourinho has the solution. Ramos is talented and has to play, but it doesn't have to be at a high price like it has been until now.

Maybe all the top quality centre backs are not available at this time, Vidic was a possible target but just signed a contract extension, Ramos is much better than Albiol at centre back... that's the only reason I can think of although there should be plenty of top quality centre backs available...

I think its Mourinho's way of trying to cover for the lack of quality in the Madrid defence, and I agree with many others that it is a complete waste of Ramos' talents to play him in the middle.

He is not big enough, or strong enough in the tackle to be a central defender anyway, but his quickness, crossing ability, and passing makes him far better suited to RB.

Real need to make signing a true central defender an priority, instead of targetting players like Maicon.

Ramos is as good RB as Maicon.He is also very effective offensively but his crossing is weak and thats why Mourinho is so desperate for Maicon.As you cannot deny the fact that Ramos plays equally good at centre as he does at right back position.

Tactics? Maybe he can see something in Ramos that we havnt seen yet? Besides he can place Ramos in his usual position if thats whats needed. I trust Mourinho so Im cool with it.

I swear if there is no attacking football from Mourinho when his team faces Barcelona, I will stop watching La Liga.

There is a saying, Defence is the best form of attack. He wants the centre-backs really strong.
