Anime vs. American animation. What one's better. Why?

Is this supposed to be a serious question? Because, I was under the impression that it was a joke. Anime absolutely demolishes almost every form of American Animation. I don't have to write a novel to get a self-explanatory point across, either.

Why are American anime fans always out to get Western animation and vice versa? Seriously there's good and bad about both. I had a friend who was a foreign exchange student from Japan and me and some friends asked her about this once and she was like "...why would I like one better?" She said she's never even heard anyone discuss if japanese was better than western animation. Japanese don't go around saying "our animation is way better/more deserving of praise than those silly american cartoons". Why? Cause the only reason westerners give a crap about it is because generally American anime fans get made fun of for liking foreign cartoons. So what do we do? We flip the tables. When we get called weird for watching anime, we go and say anyone who doesn't appreciate it is stupid because "it's better".

QUALITY:You obviously haven't studied much about animation if you think Anime has better quality animation than Western Animation. I'm not talking about the style of the drawings, I'm talking about the actual animation quality. Unless your name is Hayao Miyazaki, anime generally has a lower QUALITY of animation. Ever notice how everything in anime is completely still half the time? The characters only move when absolutely neccessary, otherwise the only thing in motion is the up-and-downs of the mouth. And when they do move it's not very smooth. It's very choppy. More recent anime has started improve in quality(see Chris' list of good studios), but even today there's still poorer quality. Western animation the characters are always moving when they speak, there's pretty much never complete stillness. I personally prefer anime STYLE drawings, but not the animation QUALITY.

TARGET AUDIENCE:Anime does have more genres than western animation though. And although western movies (Disney and the like) will be good to target for-all-ages, usually anime spans across from youngsters to pre/teens to adults. Western cartoon series generally only target young kids.

ROMANCE:As for the romantic relationships....... I haven't been able to find an anime OR western cartoon that proves to have a good romance. All shows have the obligatory love interest with cliche situations. No one wins in the love department (though the manga Bakuman I think is the only one I would consider good in the romance dept)

TIME SPENT: Again you haven't studied animation at all. Anime uses A LOT of shortcuts to cut on time and cost. Anime uses fewer frames, which is one of the reasons the quality isn't as smooth as western, this way they can get it done fast and save money. Western animation, even though it often has really bad time constraints and tight budgets, will still take the time to do everything at their top quality (note I'm talking movies and older series, NOT crappy cartoon network nowadays)

EVERYTHING ELSE: The other points you put are pretty much solely opinions. Keeps you hooked? Obviously it depends on the person. Character change? Depends on the anime. Most don't age, I see that mostly in current shows, or they simply change clothes and never age (simpsons was a terrible example, that show is all parody and for people who don't care about the ages). Relationships? Again opinion, like I said Bakuman is the only manga I've been able to find where I actually consider it a real romance.

So, there's good and bad about both. Just like every form of entertainment, people have different tastes. Not one thing will ever satisfy everyone. People who don't like anime need to leave it alone, and anime fans, if you can't take people criticizing you for liking it, ignore them and stop dissing western animation the same way they dis anime.

Clannad, Death note, Code geass, etc their is no comparison with Tom & jerry , spongebob , etc...

Anime at some point can even surpass the best story you would have ever heard...

American animation is not bad, but they are good till certain age limit as not many of em have good storyline.

there are quite a few american animated movies that are targeted at teens and adults, and have very good animation, but for the most part, japan's anime appeals more to adults and teens and theres alot more of it.

as for animation quality, japanese animation can very from the crappiest anime you can think of (theres alot of recent crap that i cant stand) and then theres the really good quality stuff such as the stuff from Production I.G., GAINAX, Studio 4C, Bones and a few other studios that produce great quality.

stories and art all depend on the source material and the original mangaka.

Hmmm, I like Anime better. Although I like Sponge Bob and Tom And Jerry, no silly american animation can defeat Japanese Quality.

Personally I like American animation I like shows like Invader Zim, Spounge Bob, Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Fosters Home for imaginary friends and so on. I read more manga/anime and I don't really watch anime.

Edit: I really don't understand why everyone is saying cartoons are gay and for children cuz they aren't so yea just wanted to make that clear >.<!

More Genres... Targets everybody...

American Cartoons only have Genres that are Comedy, SuperHeroes... That's all I can think of... oh and The Last Airbender which is action...

Anime, because most cartoons are just plain comedy in most cases, stuff like Avatar are like the exceptions

I like both, though I watch WAY more anime and read WAY more manga.

anime targets people of all ages? no it targets children and 35 year olds who live in their parent's basement. anime is bland. Ive seen very little of it that was remotely worth while.
