Do Guinea Pigs Smell Up a Room?
I'm trying to convince my mom to let me have a Guinea Pig. One of the conditions is that any pet I get CANNOT stink up the house. Now, the piggy would be staying in my room. So the real question is, do they smell so bad (with once a week cage cleaning) that the smell will leave my room and permeate the house? Please help, ASAP answers are greatly appreciated!!

If you use Carefresh bedding with daily vacuuming of poops and weekly cleaning you may not even smell a thing. If you wish to have an easier time cleaning the cage, i suggest fleece and towels. Using fleece and towels absorbs your guinea pigs waste without the trouble and expense of messy bedding. if you have 2 sheets of fleece and a few towels you can easily clean your cage. If you want to further safe money and have a happy guinea pig follow the following.
*Get another guinea pig. Usually you should get guinea pigs at a rescue or shelter ( instead of a pet store) They can give you more info on them. Guinea pigs are herd animals and are happiest with a friend of the same sex
* Highly recommend C&C cage - A C&C cage is cheaper, easier, and bigger! Store bought cages are a pain to clean and can be 60$ or more for a 2X2 cage! You can easily make a C&C cage for 20- 40$ and have it be 2X4! I highly suggest you look into it. Your guinea pig be happier and healthier! For more info on C&C cages, check out guineapigcages.com

No.
When I had a Guinea Pig, I mostly kept her in my room; especially at night. She did not stink. I took out the soiled bedding every night.
Once a week is not often enough. You need to keep the cage clean or the Guinea Pig could get a disease called Wet Tail - which is very unpleasant.

They may stink but you can clean the cage when its cage starts to stink. Also you can get a air freshener to help with smell if it is needed. And no I don't think they will stink that much to permeate the whole house. Hope this helped!

With once a week cleaning? Yes!
I change my guinea pig's bedding (fleece sheets) almost daily. I like them having a fresh, clean cage, every day. Its also very economical and more environmentally friendly to use fabric, like fleece, rather than wood chips or paper pulp products.
Also, if you want your guinea pig to have a nice cage, then I suggest getting a very large cage, or making your own.

If you leave it go a week, the entire house will stink. If you scoop the dirty litter out every day and clean the whole thing once a week, you won't smell a thing.

Well you would have to use scented bedding(they have lavender and it's marvelous), cage deodorizing spray, and clean out the soiled bedding every day.(which shouldn't be hard cause they only poop in one corner,)and if you do this it wont smell bad at all! Also, since you can't bathe your guinea pig, every month or so(whenever they get stinky) you get some babywipes/petwipes and wipe him/her down. Also you should brush her every so often so you don't get fur everywhere.
Hope this helped!
