Things to do in Mexico, Cancun.?

I'm going to Mexico in 3 weeks time as a last minute booking.

What would anyone recommend doing whilst in Mexico?

I am going for 2 weeks.

How expensive is it there (but I am going all inclusive!)

First let me say this to all. Mexico is safe for tourists. The drug cartels are in a fight against the Federal government, the local police and the military. Not one tourist has been in any danger in the tourist areas. That said let me tell you what to do.

Cancun is the most popular destination. It is close to many ruins.

Tulum is 145Km. (80 miles) this is the smallest of the 4 major ruins. But the most beautiful. On the ocean with a spectacular view and historically important archaeological site.

Chichen Itza is the largest archaeological site located about 3 hours from Cancun. This is a day trip. Chichen Itza has been called one the 7 wonders of the world.

Coba is locate just west of Tulum. I would go here first and explore this large archaeological site situated between 2 lakes. This is one of the last sites where you can still climb the pyramids. Then head back to Tulum for lunch and cooling afternoon swim at the ruins.

The last site is at the south end of Quintana Roo called Kohunlich. just west of the town Chetumal. Called the Pyramid of the Masks there were 8 masks only 5 remain 3 have been looted

Xcaret Park,( is car et) now I am not a big fan of this park because I first went here 24 years ago and it cost 1 peso to get in and it was a natural nature park. Today it costs close $70 US dollars to get and it is a tourist trap. Yes I have been invited by the owners and have enjoyed the swimming and the beaches, but it ends there everything else is man made. An amusement park without the rides.

Xelha ( shel ha) is located south of Tulum and is another water oriented park.

Across from Cancun is the Isla de Mujeres a short and very fun ferry ride to this small isla is a fantastic day trip.

    Jungle tours

    Cenote diving/snorkeling

    Sea diving/snorkeling

Island of Cozumel across from Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen the heart of the Mayan Riviera. Playa has the famous 5th Av. that runs the whole length of the town loaded with shops, bars, restaurants, hotels and clubs. It is one block to the coral sand beaches and totally walkable never need a taxis Laid back very safe 24 hours a day.

Expensive? it's not cheap. Cancun is one of the most expensive tourist towns. Taxis, drinks, food, are not cheap. Better to take buses. Plan your trips with your hotel not the cheapest but sometimes the safest.

I recommend a day trip to Isla Mujeres, very laid back and old school Mexico. You can do a lot of things, such as snorkeling, fishing, sea dooing, kayaks, sailboat, para sail. If you go farther south out of Cancun there are all sorts of activities, and the bus's will pick you up at your resort and take you to and from the activity. These would be the big ones. Otherwise you would need to rent a car, and that might be tough since youare under 25. Make use of the concierge at the resort. They have brochures for at least dozens of the activities around the area. have fun mark

I think my Dad went a lot to the beach there when he was a kid. It was a different time back then so I wouldn't know if it's expensive. Go to clubs, restaurants, sites and girls! I don't know look on the internet of something..

You'd best be careful. There is a serious drug war going on there, civilians have been killed and kidnapped for ransom. The tourist

businesses are not going to advertise that part. I would not go to Mexico.

You can browse this search page about crime in that area:
