What type of soil do cacti need?

Can you get the soil in a average garden centre for example homebase.

    Cacti need sandy soil. They will thrive in a regular garden soil. Here in Texas, they grow in almost any place. Just don't over water, they rot real easily.

    Yeah... most every garden center including Home Depot and Lowes will have a well drained mix meant especially for cacti. It consists mostly of sand and gravel.... very little humous.

    Do NOT use regular garden soil.... you would be better off planting a cactus in pure sand than regular garden soil (it retains too much water naturally and is too rich).

    if you can not get the cactus mix get a bag of sand and a bag of potting soil and mix them together, about half and half
