Best 7.62x39mm foreign ammo?
This is a question I can't quite solve. For each brand of ammo below, can someone tell me how each performs in reliability, cleanliness, and shelf life..? ..and which ones have dirty coatings on them?
- Silver Bear
- Brown Bear
- Barnaul
- Ulyanovsk

Silver Bear, Brown Bear, Wolf and Barnaul are all made by the Barnaul ammunition plant in Russia. in other words, its from the same company. they're all gonna shoot about the same and preform the same. you'll be just buying variations on the case, bullet types and powder charge.
Golden Tiger smells like acid. abit cleaner than Barnaul though. its your choice- ammo thats smells like its eating your rifle and slightly less soot. or ammo that smells like ammo should and is a bit dirtier.
Norinco is still the best 7.62x39 in my opinion, but you'd have trouble getting some - congress banned import 16 years ago.
military surplus like Yugo is okay if you don't mind it being corrosive. I've already shot about 300 rounds and I gotta say, its better than anything else I've fired, hotter, more accurate, better, except it being corrosive and a whole lot of soot. But it comes off easy and I've got an AK47 (variant) so that's hardly an issue. this stuff looked like it was stored in a swamp for 20 years, but it fired like new ammo. also its brass cased, lighter on the chamber and receiver wear& tear.
Yugo military surplus is well worth the $199 per 1260I paid, at 15.6 cents per round. palmetto state armory.
