Why dosen't Communists and Fascists get along?

For the same reasons opposing football teams might not: They're competing for the same territory. Communists were told to vote Fascist in Germany in '33, because then after that the Reds could take over. They had slogans like "after brown, then red!" etc.

And for the same reason other kinds of socialists don't always get along. Competing interests. For a bunch of "internationalists", they sure confuse you sometimes. The Ukraine had a socialist government body...but the Soviets wanted to invade, so when they did they declared the Ukraine's SOCIALISTS to be "counter revolutionary". It's just the way they roll, frienemies you know.

And in the old days, they actually did get along better. American Progressives, who had no skin the game between European groups, often admired both groups. Although I think they leaned more Fascist than Communist, before WW2 many Commies, Progs, and Fascists liked each other better. Lincoln Steffens used phrases like "The Russian-Italian method" when admiring European Authoritarianism, because he didn't distinguish between them the way they did AFTER THE WAR. Steffens is the guy who said "I've been over to the future and it works" when he went to the USSR. But Fascism was okay, apparently. More on Steffens, from Wiki:

"His enthusiasm had soured by the time he wrote his memoirs, published in 1931. He was a member of a group that came to be known as the California Writers Project, a New Deal program funded by the U.S. Government. Some of its members were socialists or communists, while others had little formal interest in politics."

FDR admired Mussolini, and both Mussolini and Hitler liked FDR. FDR admitted what they were doing was a "more ordered" version of what Italy/Germany was doing. Whether this was coherent with his administration's admissions that they were continuing some Hoover policies is unclear.

But the more traditional socialists label anything different as "right wing", even other socialists. Mussolini became "right wing" when he changed his opposition to Italy's entry into WWI. That's what his opponents said, even though the guy had been read Marx to him as a child by his father. Joe Stalin and the KGB decided that things they didn't like would be labeled right wing. Since they were competing with Fascism, they pretended Fascism was on the opposite end of the political spectrum. You can see how "coherent" and "Honest" this method was when you consider some of the other people that were labeled Fascist/Right by the Soviets: LEON TROTSKY, FDR, etc. It's just a knee jerk(some might say...reactionary!) response to people the Soviets don't like, the Soviets are responsible for this perception. And now the Soviets are gone, but their legacy lives on. The Soviets aren't the original reason, but the most strong and lasting reason why Commies, Fascists, and other groups don't get along. Have you read "Liberal Fascism"?

My own question apparently wasn't radical enough or had an inflammatory title, it only has one answer so far. "Are Syndicalists Right wing or Left?": http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArXhn...

They basically want the same thing, complete government control, they just have different ideas of how to get there. BTW what makes you think they don't get along? Hitler and Stalin got along swell, even having numerous pre- WWII agreements. Hitler "stabbed" Stalin in the back, lying to him. They both were megalomaniacs who wanted complete power - that's why they didn't get along.

Our founders were well versed in the tyranny that results when people gain power - one reason why they wanted as small a gov't as necessary.

"I am not a friend to a very energetic government. It is always oppressive".-Thomas Jefferson

"Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms [of government] those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny."-Thomas Jefferson

  • Most communists don't have nationalistic aspirations. They have global aspirations. Fascists care about their race. Communists are more concerned with all individuals.

Why don't cons and libs get along?

Because of hate, negativeness, finger pointing, partisanship, nationalism and dishonesty.

Pretty much what ails why communists and fascists don't get along.

    There is your answer.

No wonder the USA is so screwed and is, in part, why I got out and haven't looked back in the last 4 years.

    They do.

Have you forgotten that Hitler's party was called the National Socialist German Worker's party, and it was fascist!

They do. Really, there are few differences between the two.

The communists want to control your business; the fascists want to control how you do your business.

    Because they are competing tyrannies.

Same thing really. One is just on the other side of the political spectrum. Right wing and left wing.
