Anne Rice leaves Christianity. What do you think?

I know she goes back and forth with this (this is the second time she quits Christianity), but I think this time she quit religion for good.

Update:

**I don't give anyone 'thumbs down' unless their answer is highly offensive to myself or to others***

Update 2:

Well, and this is a direct quote, she did say "Today I quit being a Christian. I'm out. I remain committed to Christ as always but not to being "Christian" or to being part of Christianity."

She didn't mention Catholicism in particular...

Update 3:

Mmm... I just noticed that she was indeed a Catholic. I guess she just used "Christian" because she wanted to use a brush wide enough to encompass ALL Christianity, be it the Catholic church, Evangelicals, etc..

My way of seeing things is that we can never leave Existence...we cannot walk away from the Fullness of our Untrammeled Being...and our profound interconnectedness...whatever beliefs we hold...in the same way that we cannot fall off the Earth, no matter which bit of this globe's surface we happen to be standing or floating on.

I see that all roads lead to the discovery that we have been like spiritual athletes on our running machines...each of us pounding away trying to reach the fullness of Existence...when we have never stopped being this 'Pure Aware Presence'...this Supreme Completion...

    ...not ever.

It's a shame people don't read the article before answering. Rice is against many of the views of organized Christian groups that she feels are not Christlike. She said at one point that she is a follower of Christ, but not a follower of Christ's followers. More power to her.

According to her own words, she is leaving the organized Catholic church because she has some issues with it. She states specifically issues with the role of women and their stand on homosexuality. However she states that she still considers herself a "Christian" and believes in God and the Bible. She is just not happy with "Christianity", the organization that has grown up around the actual religion.

  • Sounds to me a bit like when Gandhi said "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ". She still believes in Christ, but does not want anything to do with the fundamentalist Christians who use their religious beliefs to justify bigotry and oppression. It is a shame that she didn't meet the Christians I know and decide to speak out against those who are hijacking Christ's teachings for their own purposes.

I feel sorry for her. She is projecting.

She has tossed away what little ground she had only to scrounge in the garbage for it at a later date.

Seriously isn't she a little old for such a tried treadmill.

I'm glad i never bothered with her Christ books. I took a few moments not long ago to skimmed the last one and boy! was it weak and lame.

she'll be begging at the church steps soon enough....how sad.

I spoke with her once on matters of faith and sexually and I thought there was a greater depth there...shows what I know.

    Peace

Ok. I guess that makes her a person with opinion and beliefs. I'm not particularly interested in celebrities and don't consider them a social standard or exemplar - in fact, the opposite.

Stephanie's answer made me chuckle. It reminded me of something l saw on TV where the girl tells the boy " You don't break up with me... Nobody does- l will be the one to tell you when its over."

Religion is just a social club. Maybe she'll join another club.

In other words Anne Rice is a lukewarm Christian or is she anti-lukewarm too? How sad is that? Very sad to be lukewarm and not stand up for Jesus Christ for it is His Words that she is throwing in the face of Christianity. I will pray for her.
