how can you be a top contributor in a category w/o even being close to the top of the leaderboard in it?

It is rumoured for someone to get a top contributor badge all you have to do is answer 40-50 questions in one category and get 10% best answers, you don't have to be on top of the leader board for that.

Plenty of people are Top Contributors even though they're not in the top leaderboard in the category since that isn't a factor. I used to be a Top Contributor in the Comedy section until I stopped participating, and I wasn't in the Top 10 for that category. You just have to continue participating every week and keep getting a lot of Best Answers.
