Why did America build the Freedom Tower (One WTC) and not rebuild the twin towers?

Why did america decide to do this. Why didn't they rebuild the twin towers to reclaim america's spirit and show we will not be backed down. I always really wanted to see those tall identical towers but never got the chance after they were destroyed. Anyway, I think a lot of people would be happy if they rebuilt the original world trade center. But why did they choose to build this new building?

I think it would be kind of creepy to rebuild those towers as if nothing had ever happened. As it is when I see older movies filmed in NYC it always seems spooky to see the WTC standing in the background. Oh I see someone disagrees. Think about it, would you work there? I'm not superstitious or anything,I'm just saying......

It doesn't have to do with fear of another attack.

When I was a kid and it first happened I wanted them to rebuild them as they were. But I've thought more about it, and I don't think it would be appropriate. The twin towers were designed in the early 1960's with a tube-frame structural system by Minoru Yamasaki. They were built with the materials, technology and design of that time period. In fact they were a major jump forward in skyscraper design.

The new towers are being built now, and should reflect all of the advances we have made in building design since then. We have new methods, materials and priorities, and that progress should have some impact on the project. I'm not actually a huge fan of the current plan for ground zero, but at least New Yorkers are regaining some use of the site.

I wish they would at least do one move as daring as the Vietnam memorial. I know they can't have the entire site be a memorial, but I'm not satisfied with the current plans.

The original WTC towers were 40 year old architecture, you don't build towers that are old technology. Second the original footprints of the towers are going to be memorials dedicated to the people killed that day. What kind of tribute would it be to build a bunch of offices on top of the site. That is all the twin towers were, office space.

The redevelopment of the site is not just the freedom tower. Many different designs were considered but you don't redevelop sites by rebuilding what was there. You redevelop site making them better.

Because they went against the will of New Yorkers and made the entire process some misguided exercise in political correctness.

Donald Trump said he would rebuild a more modern and better twin towers and most of New York agreed. The government chose to go in another direction. Hence, We have had a hole in the ground at the WTC site for the past 9 years. Government has a uncanny ability of totally screwing up everything they touch. They just need to get the helll out of the way.

I'm just completely stunned at all the idiots on here who think "the government" is rebuilding the World Trade Center site.

Why are they going to build a freedom tower? Isn't that something? A freedom tower and mosque in the same spot!!!

It's government property and they don't have to ask you anything, about anything!!

It's more for cosmetic reasons, and one "Freedom Tower" shows our resolve and unity as a country. Besides, the WTC project includes a second, third, forth, fifth, and 7th tower to be constructed.

    Here is the second tower:

    The third tower:

That's a good question. Now that I think about they should rebuild the twin towers, only even bigger.

There was fear that if they did another attack would follow and they wanted to respect those who died, instead of building to giant work spaces on top of their graves they paid tribute to those who died. I would want a huge building used for office space where I died.
