Atheists; If the holy grail of evidence was found and proved the Messiah(Jesus)existed and died to save you..?

Considering the Messiah's role is clearly described in the Jewish Scriptures, and Jesus utterly failed to fulfill that, I would not accept such evidence as valid.

Here's the thing.

Let's assume there is, in fact, a god, which in most English-speaking countries is simply referred to as "God", indicating the God of Abraham, the God of Issac, the God of Jacob. Let us further assume that this deity, who when asked who he was declared himself to be "I Am Who Am," handed down revelations to Moses and the Jewish Prophets.

These revelations are penned down in the books of the Torah, the Nevi'im, and the Ketuvim. Among these revelations is God's promise that he will send a ruler and savior to the Jews who will do many things, amongst them create world peace, establish the Temple, obliterate even the possibility of sin, bring knowledge of Torah to the whole world, and so-on and so-on.

Now, someone comes along and says, "Hey, I'm this dude the scriptures talk about!" However, this person fails to do the things required by the scriptures of the person he claims to be.

Who would you believe? God or the man claiming the scriptures are wrong?

For the record... I'm an atheist, not a Jew.

But if the Jewish scriptures are correct, then Jesus is a fraud at beast, a false prophet at worst.

If the Jewish scriptures are in error, then there is no basis on which to accept any person's claim to being the Messiah, since Messiah is a concept solely of the Prophets and Writings.

So, either Jesus was not the Messiah... or there was never and will never be a Messiah.

Not sure how finding a cup will prove that god is real.

hypothetically, if some how you were able to prove god was in fact real, then yes I would believe he was real. So then I ask you, why would I need to worship him? Would he not see that I was just going alone with it all? Would he not accept me for being me? Why would he not understand the way I feel and accept me for who I am? Not a very nice guy if he takes the "my way or the Hi-way" attitude.

I might believe but since this is ONLY hypothetical, and the being does not exist, I'll say this:

If the deity described in the Biblical Old Testament actually existed, I would be scared sh!+less that such a petty misogynistic racist genocidal maniac had that kind of power. I'd drive myself insane trying not to THINK wrong even for a second. Then if I shot myself, I'd go to Hell.....

Evidence as to the historical existence of the Jesus figure wouldn't indicate that the claims made about his divinity are true, you know.

If someone found Beowulf's grave mound, that wouldn't mean that dragons were real.

Of course I would believe. I believe in whatever the evidence points to. At the moment though, there is ZERO evidence for the divine Jesus story (heck not even clear evidence the guy existed), so I don't believe.

See, if we have evidence, then we have knowledge -- and there's no need for "belief."

"Belief" is worthless. It only exists in the absence of knowledge.

I won't ever "believe." I would accept facts based on valid evidence and knowledge, but that's not "belief." But hey, I'm not going to hold my breath...believers have been trying to find evidence for their superstitions for thousands of years, and none has yet been produced. It's not looking good.

IF there was good evidence, sure. Right now there is none that is credible. When you get some wake me. Don't forget to include evidence that he was also divine, not just some guy that others wrote stories about.

I'd ask for more proof that a guy can somehow sit on a cloud, then ask why it wouldn't be a different religious entity, then wonder if it was just Long cat trying to trick us.

If the evidence existed, and it was found, I would have to accept that it happened -- but I'd be seeking to destroy your God, not worship Him.

But it won't be, will it? Because it didn't happen, and that's why there is no evidence.

This holy grail of evidence had better be convincing. I want to see something like 'Jesus is God' spelled out in the stars at night. God should be able to pull that off easily.
