In some ways! Taking German really makes you aware that (1) English is a Gemanic language and (2) English takes a GREAT deal of its vocabulary from Latin! So in some aspects of grammar, German comes more naturally to an English speaker than a Romance language does. (E. g. adjectives before nouns; forming compound words) In others, it's harder, because we share so many Latin-based words with the true Latin-derived languages, whereas German has its own words for many of those concepts. For example, you would almost certainly recognize the word for "independence" in any Romance language, but the German word for it is "Unabhaengigkeit." On the other hand, the simple everyday vocabulary of German is very similar to that of English. In German, one lives in a Haus and walks through the Tuer to get into it. At Nacht, one schlaeft in a Bett, und in dem Morgen, man trinkt Kaffee. I think you get the idea.
I know you didn't ask about Latin, but if you have had any, it will come in handy for German in at least one way. German is more inflected than English, with six verb forms for each tense, three noun genders, and four cases for each gender.

As the original source for English, there are quite a few similarities. Unfortunately, English was also heavily influenced by French, due to the Norman conquest.
But as a whole, i thought German was reasonably easy.

it depends on your native tongue. They say that if you are an english speaker, learning German is easier because there are a lot of similarities between the two languages. ;)

It's very similar to English, most of the words are similar (ie. Sister - Schwester, Brother - Bruder). In my opinion, grammar is the hardest bit. It's easy to pull sentences together & be remotely understandable, but making full correct sentences is the hardest part.
Good luck with your choice :)
