Every child and teen needs a dog. Here's how you can convince them:
Tell them that you have responsibilities and you can handle a challenge. Don't beg and say, Please, please, please... that will make them mire angry and annoyed. You need to sound mature and ideal. Do chores around the house, more chores than you have to do. Help your mom with the dishes. Help with the trash. Anything. Show them that your serious about taking care of a dog. Research the costs of having a dog, like shots for the dog, and the appointment to the vet. Show your research to your parents. They will know that you are serious about this of having a dog.
List the benefits of having a dog:
* The dog will help you to be responsible.
* The dog can become a companion for the whole family.
* Walking a dog can help you get more exercise.
* Dogs can sometimes be trained to perform useful tasks, such as warning you of intruders or fetching objects.
* Dogs can be therapeutic, especially during sad or lonely times. A dog is a friend that will always be there to cheer you up! They are like people who understand what your saying and they know when just to lick you and lay down right next to you and just sit there and let you pet them until you feel better. Take a friend or relative's dog for a weekend as a "test run" to show your parents that you are ready for the responsibility. Give them time to think about it. Pestering them will only undo your earlier work showing them that you are not mature and responsible enough yet.
Try getting a book about dog breeds. Your local library should have one.
Using this book, everyone involved should make a list of the dogs they like.
Research further into the breed you want. (This information will help you even if you get a mixed breed dog. If you can tell what some of the breeds are, you might have some idea as to the temperament of the dog).
Convince your parents that you are saving a life by adopting a shelter dog. You are saving a dog that would have been "put to sleep" next week. Think about it.
Let everyone 'think' about it a few days, and then try visiting a local dog shelter. If your parents won't let you have a dog, 1st try for a smaller animal to show your maturity.
Take care of yourself and your things to show your resonsible.
Do what your parents say when you're asked. No more "Hold on" or "Just a minute".
Research about the breed and all dogs. ALOT. Recite the facts to your parents every day randomly (Maybe at dinner or when everyone's together) a few days before asking for the actual dog. Remember to mostly talk about your preferred dog breed.
Good Luck!

How would you feel if you and your mother switched places? If you were the one afraid of dogs and she really wanted a dog, she would put your needs before hers and not be selfish. She and your father have already said no about getting you a dog, and they mean what they say. I know it seems unfair now, but respect their decision. Eventually you may be able to have a dog. Just don't bug them, and respect the fact that your mom is afraid of dogs. Everything will work out. Good luck.

Hi!
I have faced that problem before and now, a year later, my dog is having her birthday.
Get her a copy of Hachiko. That's soften her up about dogs and you'll probably have dogs of any sizes you want.
Best to convince her that dogs are loyal and the depiction of their ferocity is exaggerated.
This is just how I solve my problem. Better for you to wait and compare other answers. Good luck!
