glass panels vs cables for deck railing?
bought a house that already had a nice deck but i dont like the look of the white pvc railing around the perimeter of the deck...it also blocks the view somewhat....doing a little research, looks like the main 2 options for a better view are glass panels and cables...advantages and disadvantages of either??...pricing?...professional vs friends [ skilled ] to install??....

I don't like glass for deck panels. It gives a good view, but it's a damn nuisance to keep clean. I used stucco wire once for deck panels and liked it very much. Gave a good view, needed no care, easy to install and cheap to buy, comes in different gauges and heights. Installing it yourself with a friend to help is easy. Cut the wire to size and fasten it to the posts with screws and washers. There are other types of mesh fencing wire that would work too, depending what size mesh you like. If you have small children and would like a little extra security factor, you could use cables as well, strategically placed. Just don't use chicken wire, it's far too flimsy.

Well the glass has to be tempered. That is mostly expensive. Plus if you live in a windy area you have to make sure the patio furniture does not move around. If a strong enough gust blows the furniture around and it goes up against the panel it will shatter. That is what happened to my next door neighbor
