Without mentioning morality, why exactly can a man not marry his brother in Massachusetts?

And if you say because it's illegal, how is the law barring it constitutional?

    Because they're brothers. Eew.

Yes, my reasoning is that it's gross, which has nothing to do with the legal system... Sorry. Why would you want to marry your sibling?!

@Miss Mouse. That's a darn good point... But it's still hard to get past the eew factor... I think that marriage implies a sexual relationship exists between the two, whether that's true or not, it isn't something I can get out of my head.

So yeah... Despite that I had no argument against in the first place, it seems like I have even less now! :-)

This a contradictory question. You prevent the mentioning of "morality," yet you use the term "marry," which is defined purely on the basis of morality.

You either believe such a relationship is moral or immoral. If you deny there is morality then you have lost any basis for discerning right from wrong and good from evil.

But to answer your question logically, a man cannot marry another man because the term "marry," refers to a covenant relationship between one man and one woman. Two men can be in a homosexual relationship, but it cannot properly be called marriage because it contradicts the very definition of marriage.

There is no reason. By recognizing same-sex marriage, Massachusetts has officially and completely severed the connection between marriage and procreation, and thus has eliminated any biological reason to prohibit marriage between siblings. All that is left is the "eew" factor. Should our laws be based on "eew"?

@LyssQ re "Why would you want to marry your sibling?!"

Say your sibling needs health insurance but can't get it due to preexisting conditions. You have great health insurance through your employer, who also extends it to your legal spouse. Why would you NOT want to marry your sibling so s/he can receive this spousal health insurance?

without mentioning peoples feelings...How is doing crack wrong?

without mentioning morality.....How is being a racist wrong?

You can't take the feelings that makes people disagree with an issue away, and then ask them to explain why they are against it. Your making your opinion valid by asking other people to qualify their views without using their own values and opinions to do so.

It's unnecessary. Benefits like hospital visits already accrue to blood relatives. But even if you insist, there are countries already where this is legal (France, for one I think), and many states already allow blood relative marriage, just not to that degree of kinship.

Because gay marriage of any sort affirms or glorifies anal intercourse [just as heterosexual marriage affirms and glorifies vaginal intercourse] and anal intercourse always causes injury and exposes both partners to chronic, contagious and deadly diseases. Anyone who condones, affirms or glorifies anal intercourse hates gay men. It turns out that Bible morality is practical and excellent hygiene.

Don't delude yourself, all law is someone's morality.

    Hope that helps.
