Lyss Q
What's the difference between a duck?
3 AnswersPolls & Surveys9 years agoIn construction and building design, what does an aphasia board do?
I tried looking this up, but anything I write about aphasia directs me to information about the medical condition.
Perhaps I have the spelling wrong?
1 AnswerEngineering10 years agoWhat's the pronunciation of the word "herb" in the UK?
In the U.S. we say "erb"...
I'm watching Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, and he said "herb," pronouncing the H.
Is that correct?
7 AnswersLanguages10 years agoWhat does "I can do all things in him who strengthens me" mean?
I know it's metaphorical; it doesn't mean you can fly, but (in your opinion) what does it mean more precisely?
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years agoI got the cochineal bug out of my baby prickly pear. Should it survive now?
Hi :)
I got the little bug out and some of the white fuzzy crap... Is it likely my prickly pear will survive? They're very hearty plants, but It only had two pads, and one of them is already dead.
1 AnswerZoology10 years agoDid God mean to distribute water unevenly?
Feel free to answer that, but it isn't my "real" question... I just wanted to have a valid reason to put this in R&S :)
Here it is: Should all water be free?
Is it a private commodity or a shared community resource?
3 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years agoAre people who deny HIV/AIDS common?
I watched a TV show featuring a woman and her doctor who deny the existence of AIDS and say that HIV is harmless. It made me curious (and a little scared)... Do many people actually believe this? Are those people from developed countries or developing countries or is there no distinction?
4 AnswersOther - Health10 years agoWhat do you do to be extra careful when your seizure threshold is low?
Hi! Anyone with epilepsy around? How do you guard yourself against seizures when your seizure threshold is especially low?
There's all the normal staying away from flashing lights and stuff... But do you have any other recommendations?
Other - Health10 years agoSo... diseases come from sin; is that right?
I want to understand this theory better.
I've heard that the world was perfect until Adam and Eve disobeyed God... Everything from there on was screwed up. How does that work?
Did diseases and defects appear suddenly after Adam and Eve ate that fruit and had to make themselves clothes and stuff?
Wow... This is worded really badly. Sorry about that--my grammatical skills are lacking today.
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years agoDoes it annoy you when people leave their questions up for a vote?
...instead of picking a best answer?
I've been doing that a lot lately. Sorry.
I always intend to pick a BA, but I stay away too long.
5 AnswersPolls & Surveys10 years agoWhat's wrong with my calculations?
I feel I must be doing something really stupid, but I cannot figure out what!
I want to solve this equation for x...
10^(x+3) = 5e^(7-x)
To figure it out I divided by five and then took the natural log of both sides, etc.
I get the answer 2.9, but if I put that back into the original equation, I get an inequality.
Wolfram says the answer is 0.515... which works if you put it back into the initial equation, but I have no idea how they got that answer!
Someone please tell me how to solve this correctly because it's driving me crazy.
2 AnswersMathematics10 years agoIsn't finding Jesus on a tortilla the same as finding a man on the moon?
I don't understand how Mary on a grilled cheese is a miracle anymore than a a rock formation on the moon that looks like a person's face.
Don't our minds naturally look for faces? We see them where they weren't meant to exist all the time.
How can someone say they've found the face of Jesus when no one actually knows what he looked like? I doubt a 30-something Jewish man from the first century looked much like the paintings we're familiar with from 16th century Italy.
Or maybe... Is the whole religious-figures-on-food some sort of brilliant Poe?
(...I know this is random, but things just pop into my head sometimes.)
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years agoWhere in the Bible does it say pi is equal to three?
I've heard that a lot, but I have no idea what passage(s) say this.
Maybe it's just my crappy memory, but I don't remember much math in the Bible, even in the book of Numbers.
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years agoWhy do people tell me I'm not a Christian, just because I disagree with their outlook?
So I don't think life started with two people six thousand years ago... In what way does that prevent me from being a Christian?
I don't the Bible is just a bunch of fake crap; I think that ANY literature, including religious/inspired writing, needs to be taken in the context of when it was written and who it was written by.
I'm also not much of a literalist, which is what seems to upset people the most. The new testament is chock full of Jesus using metaphor after metaphor, with allegory thrown in here and there... Why wouldn't there have been precedence to that in the scriptures he studied as a young man?
So tell me, because I don't get it... Why does that mean I'm not a Christian?
19 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years agoIs "white guilt" a lot like "original sin"?
White guilt being Anglo Saxons (in the U.S.) feeling bad because their ancestors had slaves or were pro slavery or any number of things that happened a long time ago, despite that the people now had absolutely nothing to do with that.
According to the doctrine of original sin, we're still paying for Adam and Eve's screwup, right? Despite the fact that no one here had anything to do with any talking snake or forbidden fruit.
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years agoI've just been blocked, how should I feel about that?
I mean blocked on y!a, of course.
Upon finding out, I grimaced, then I grinned. :)

What reaction to you have to being blocked by another user on y!a?
13 AnswersPolls & Surveys10 years agoWhere the hell do pedophiles come from?
FinalTrump's answer to this question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=201108... made me wonder...
What makes an adult attracted to a child? That can't possibly be natural. (please excuse my presumption, or feel free to ignore it.)
y!a actually suggested this category... Not sure why.
Society & Culture > Religion & Spirituality
Not that their choice of categories tends to be sensible.. They also suggested this
Science & Mathematics > Geography
