dogs like pitbulls ? (but legal in uk)?
are there any dogs like pit bulls, apart from staffs, american bulldogs or bull terriers ?
i like the look of pit bulls but i live in scotland so they are illegal here
i prefer dogs that are uncommon
i think it's stupid that pit bulls are illegal just because of some idiots that train them to fight

Well a properly bred Staffie looks nothing like a Pit Bull, were did English Bull Terriers come from? they look nothing like them either.
Cane Corso
Presa Canario
Alano Espanol
Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog
Olde English Bulldogge
Kiko - There is no American Staffordshire Bull Terrier... take out the Bull and that is the actual name. Plus he is in the UK American Staffordshire Terriers are illegal here, they class as Pit Bull Type.
Pit Bulls aren't banned to stop dog fighting they are banned to decrease the amount of dog attacks on people and other dogs. But has that worked? has it buggery! It is time the Government looked at the other end of the lead instead of the dogs breed and looks.

Not sure on the like pit bulls comment, I in fairness to pit bulls years ago knew quite a few people who had them and they were well behaved and far from the sterotypical nasty dog potrayed in the press however, something did need to be done but all dogs should be chipped and the owners whould have to present these dogs every 3 months at a drop in centre, the police should be able to stop anyone walking ANY dog and check for the registration details.bit like cars, I have rescued re trained and re holmed Labradoors, Bull dogs, Bullmastiffs, Rotties, Staffies, Shitzu's, Setters one thing in common with all the owners didn't know jack about the needs of them and pups suffered as a result. I have kept a 4 year old Bullmastiif (Theo) 68kg but like a big cuddly bear and a 9 year old Staffs (Lady). Look round preloved website and rescue centres and you and the pup will pick each other ;-)

Well the only problem that I can see with that is that you'll still have a dog that looks like a 'pit-bull.' I don't know how Scotland decides what dog is a pit-bull and what isn't, but I know with hysteria like it is all it takes is a neighbor who doesn't like you...
How about a German Pincher?
or a Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog

To be honest, I have no idea what dogs are legal in Scotland. If you want an uncommon dog, then why not go for a mixed breed. We have a 3 yr old staff & a 10mth old boxer/staff cross. The rescue centres are full of mixed breed dogs, from the idiots you are talking about, but just because they are crosses does not stop them from being excellent pets with the right person & may well give you the different look you want. I quite agree that the Governments need to get their heads round the fact that it is not the dog that poses the risk, but the idiots who have them.

I wonder what you mean by 'uncommon'? Maybe you mean 'that stand out from the crowd'? If so then that's down to the way you train them as much as their looks and personality.
What about a Manchester Terrier (Black &Tan)

Or if you want something that oozes with confidence and character then perhaps a little Patterdale?
If it's a big dog to make a statement you require then a well-bred GSD will always fit the bill.

there's no such animal as a "pit bull" i'm questioning you're able to be speaking approximately an American Pit Bull Terrier. the three breeds maximum possibly shared basic ancestors yet by using selective breeding they have all grow to be diverse and different breeds. They do share some common features loyalty being between the generic attributes besides as non-human aggressive. Human aggression has on no account been allowed nor inspired as a trait in the two of those breeds. in actuality in the instruct ring human aggression is grounds for disqualification. whilst wanting to purchase a canine it rather is often a good characteristic to look for. the different variations are all elegance. all of them seem somewhat diverse yet they are puzzled particularly in many circumstances via people who do not know the breeds as one breed. it rather is one reason that breed particular law does no longer and could no longer paintings.

American Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Staffie mixes - check your rescue, there'll be loads.
It's not really stupid - it was an attempt to try and stop fighting. A lot of people think it's because they're naturally vicious (total lie, in most cases, although, as in every breed, you'll get the ones who are genetically nervous/aggressive, but this can be helped with training)
