My hair is breaking in the back, but still growing? I'm confused help!?

I've been trying to go out my hair for months now!

And while I've seen good progress with my hair growing longer, at the same time, it's breaking off shorter in the back!

I bought a perm for when I go back to school, but now my mom and I are unsure whether to put it in or not... We don't want more to break off in the back.

1) How is my hair growing longer, but breaking off at the same time?

2) Is it okay to put the perm in?

3) If not, would it be okay to braid most of my hair into a ponytail and then just flatiron the part of the hair IN the ponytail? <-- I've worn that style before but I hope you understand what I mean

Breaking hair comes damaging it, obviously. So things like putting your hair in a ponytail when it's wet, straightening, and blow drying your hair can all damage it.

    1. your hair grows from the roots.

    2. up to you...get a haircut first?
