Question regarding our obligations for gun safety? What would you do?
Let's say you see a teen kid in his own backyard, waving a loaded pistol around unsafely, pointing it at himself, at the dog, at other kids, and generally ignoring safety rules.
You say, 'Hey kid, you shouldn't be doing that, keep the pistol pointed in a safe direction.'
And the teen petulantly answers, 'The pistol only fires if I pull the trigger, and I didn't pull the trigger did I? No. So STFU!'
The kid is on his own property, parents or any other adults are unavailable, and no one has been harmed.
Calling the police is passing the buck. It means do nothing, it isn't my problem. Is that really the extent of our obligations in this situation? Pass the buck?

Time to call the police. ASAP before someone gets hurt. Then the parents should also get charged for allowing access of a firearm to a minor.
Source(s): Calling the police isn't passing the buck. What if that teen fired a round at someone? Since you watched it happen and did nothing, you will be partially responsible. What if that teen shot one of your family? Would you feel good about doing nothing? - hotwheels122287Lv 71 decade ago
depending on the age of the kid in some states you cant be in possession of a gun without parental/guardianship permission and with them WATCHING the kid the best thing you can do in this situation is to call the police and have them taken care of it. he may have not shot the gun yet by pulling the trigger but he accidentally COULD do that.

Well, I'm smart enough not to try and take a loaded gun from someone who's clearly a little nutty. I'd call the police.
