Why did Tea Party members bring dogs and picket signs to a mosque during Friday prayers? To support freedom?
"...In late June, in Temecula, Calif., members of a local Tea Party group took dogs and picket signs to Friday prayers at a mosque that is seeking to build a new worship center on a vacant lot nearby...
...A Muslim community has been there for about 12 years and expanded to 150 families who have outgrown their makeshift worship space in a warehouse, said Mahmoud Harmoush, the imam, a lecturer at California State University, San Bernardino. The group wants to build a 25,000-square-foot center, with space for classrooms and a playground, on a lot it bought in 2000...
...an estimated 20 to 30 people who turned out to protest the mosque, including some who intentionally took dogs to offend those Muslims who consider dogs to be ritually unclean. But they were outnumbered by at least 75 supporters. The City of Temecula recently postponed a hearing on whether to grant the mosque a permit...."
How were the Tea Party supporters defending the Constitution by attempting to deny the free exercise of religion guaranteed by the First Amendment?
See article at link: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/08/us/08mosque.html...
This took place in June, 2010. Jeez read the article.
Determining whether a building will be permitted by referring to the identity of the religious group that seeks to build it is clearly prohibited by the First Amendment. Interrupting Friday prayers to protest the proposed building of a mosque is obnoxious and anti-American.
I see a lot of defections and few that actually address the question. Typical.

Because tea baggers do not have a clue about the history of this country....that was founded for religious freedom. Seems they want to restore the constitution to 1870 which voids a lot of the amendments like Women voting. Apparently, they just don't know what they are doing. Typical...

That is a perfect example of the hypocritical nonsense people in this country push forth. I mean think about your statement, the TEA PARTY people respect the constitution especially when it comes to government getting in their way and are quick to stand up if they feel they are being violated. However, when it comes to pursuing a cause that is based on either their ignorance or disrespect of other people and their rights, violating that lovely constitution does not seem so bad. It is about as backwards as can be understood.

Because that's what Tea Party members do best. Attempt to intimidate minorities and all others who don't think like them. After all, they are famous for their made up anger, hatred and bigotry.
They've become the derelict, unintelligent and permanent sociopaths of this country.
Source(s): To LOL Ape: Muslim Americans never cherred or celebrated 9/11 when it happend. We saw pictures of Arabs dancing in the streets from Gaza. You know, the area of Israel that Israeli's are getting ready to exterminate. (So says pro-Palestineans. Although their minds are flawed because there's no such place as Palestine. - Mr. MeLv 71 decade ago
According to the president we are allowed practice anything we'd like. Perhaps they were dog worshipers. I won't comment on the wisdom, but will invoke route for their rights against the welfare of all involved :)

Because the Tea Party will do whatever it takes to put their twisted plans in to place. They care not about what makes America great.

Just like groups of muslim-americans cheered when 9/11 happened? (There were groups that did this, don't deny it). As long as both of these groups were not violent they have a right to peacefully protest.

Because it's freaking FUNNY!
"defections"???
Odd how none of the local media that covered the story made any connection to Tea Party groups. Which makes sense as Tea Parties are concerned w/ fiscal issues, not religious.
Only the NY Times writer (who wasn't there) drew that conclusion. How long did it take you to find a version that fit your personal view?
