There is no doubt Shane Williams has talent but the fact remains, he is a midget.

Ask yourself these simple questions, Who would you rather tackle? Who would you rather be tackled by?

The true sadness around the legend that is or was Johna is that his career was cut short by a very serious illness. There is no doubt that had he been able to play to his full capacity and had an International career even half as long as Shane Williams or the likes of Howlet or Rocococo - no record would have been left unbroken.

Just so you know, All Blacks currently have a young man playing on the blindside who has the explosive power, ability to step both ways and run through any current international winger - quietly going under the radar at the minute playing in number 6. Moved almost secretly into a super 14 side after demolishing all at R7WC and promoted to All black squad without any fuss, fan fare or drama, being groomed to explode in 2011. He sits on the bench for 70 mins each test and when he does come on he is only running defensive sets, once he starts playing half games and has a chance to be involved in offense movements and supported by the All Black back three, NZ will have the strongest blindside attack ever assembled, he will be a try scoring machine - In 13 months time all others will fear the rise of Victor Vito.

Could this be the second coming?

I had mixed thoughts on this. The two men are very different types of runners. Lomu a power runner without equal -- after all he had 80 lbs on Williams -- while Williams has the best side-step on the pitch today. Makes them hard to compare.

First of all, Lomu shone in to world cups, and Williams has done nothing close to that. And I think it fair to say that with ball-in-hand, he (Lomu) was the best running back in the history of rugby.

But his defence and kicking skills were below average for an international-level winger. Lomu was fortunate in that he had teammates who effectively masked those weaknesses through most of his career. On the rare occasion where he found himself deep in his own end without an outlet he was in serious trouble. His clearance kick was liable to go anywhere. No such criticism can be made of Williams.

Bottom line. Lomu is the one player who almost everyone with even the slightest knowledge of the rugby world will know. You can't say the same of Williams.

Shane Williams is a very good winger and is coming to the end of his career. Lomu changed the game of Rugby, he became the first Superstar of Rugby. He changed the way a winger plays. Lomu is in the top Rugby players of all time. I have him in my greatest wingers of all time. 1. Kirwan. 2. Lomu. Williams never achieved against the ABs. Enough said.

Shane Williams is a very good rugby player but to be honest he would not even make the All Black team in his prime. He may look the goods playing in the competitions he does but from what ive seen of him on an international level against New Zealand he has failed to impress and has been outplayed by his opposite everytime. Jonah Lomu was the biggest name in Rugby and is most probably still the most widely recognised name in the Sport.

Good god. I don't think I'm biased at all when I ask:

How are these two names used in the same sentence? Particularly with Jonah's name in lower case, and Shane Williams all in caps?

Not only is my answer Jonah Lomu, but I have discovered that I don't have enough fingers and toes to count other wingers around the world who are/were better than Willams.

I did try a calculator, but it imploded and opened a gateway to parallel universe where Shane Williams was better than everyone at everything. Strange place.

    Jonah Lomu.

Jonah Lomu. A forward that ran like a wing. Scary.

Anyway, our small wing, the aptly named James Small, had Lomu in his back-pocket in the 1995 World Cup Final. It's not the size of the dog that counts, it's the size of the fight in the dog that counts. Unless your name's Mike Catt, then size does matter.

there will never be a winger like lomu

    Lomu.

But why are guys tripping on Williams. The guy was IRB World Player of the year a year or two back, hardly shite.
