Liberals + Islam v Liberals + Christianity?
When Pat Robertson or another fringe religious leader says something inflammatory, liberals apply his personal beliefs to all Christians, the entire Republican party and the entire southeast region of the United States.
When 19 Muslims crash an airplane into a building killing 3,000 innocent civilians and Muslims around the world cheer and celebrate, burn American flags, issue future threats while other 'moderate' Muslims refuse to condemn these acts, liberals maintain that we should not judge all the religion's adherents by the acts of a few.
Oh, I don't mind generalizing. I don't have a problem with it. I'm just wondering if Christians were to engage in more violently anti-American acts perhaps they could capture the hearts and minds of our Liberal countrymen as well...

Then maybe you shouldn't let the Pat Robertson's and Jerry Falwell's and Sarah Palin's and Newt Gingrich's take over your party. The GOP leadership bows down to most of the right extremist groups and organizations and don't say peep against them.

What's that old line "England swings like a Pendulum do?" Winston Church said "A young man who isn't a liberal has no heart, An old man who isn't a conservative has no sense" I can't speak for the rest of the world, but since America is a part of the world (technically) :) i assume a lot f the same factors are moving elsewhere. Every society lives in Cycles. Every twenty /thirty years you will see a movement between conservatism and liberalism. It usually follows the war, boom, bust cycle, but we haven't really had that since WW2 (we've just had the wars and the busts.) However, the Greatest Generation ( a Brokaw Plug?) has another motivating factor - the baby boom. In the sixties you have that huge upswing of young, idealistic liberal people, and this was the first generation since Luthor to question their parentls religion. They moved into Hinduism with the Beatles, EST with the Beach Boys and the summer of love with - well, the naked Bacchanal. As these young people explored deeper into religion, moving more into Pirsig and Casteneda, they sought more liberal religious organizations. And these were very communial people, they would join any group it seemed. They were going to change the world, but really discovered the establishment wasn't giving up without a fight - and it had all the guns and money. Disillusioned, they became the corporate raiders and MTV generation. They had kids, got a job and a mini van and settled into life. They discovered that all systems need to be changed from the inside and they did some marvelous things - like getting women CEOS in office, voting for Black Mayors and cleaning up the enviorment. Hardly the Marxist paradise they promised, but a pretty cool set of accomplishments. They also came up with "spiritual, but not religious" Twain said "When I was a boy of 17 and left home, my father was a moron. WHen I returned a man of 22, I was surprised how wise he had become". This is what happened to the baby boomers. We have all grown up, now and we are enfranchised in this society, and let's face it, recognising our mortality. (sheesh!). We find ourselves, having rejected wholesale our parents more orthodoxed religion, lost without an oar. As we move back into conservatism, so do our children, who are still rebelling against whatever we believe in - just like we did. The great experiment didn't fail, exactly, it rather just kind of found a middle ground and we are scrambling to find something to make sense of it all. I think Islam is a lot of the same thing, compounded but the creation of Isreal and "western Meddling" as they see it.

Wrong on so many levels generalizations that are worse than the one you accuse liberals of are mentioned in your statement. Pat Roberson is a bag but I don't think he speaks for all Christians but I know he has followers and a lot of pull. In fact there are a lot of christian liberals too what of them?
Islam like Christianity is a complex religion made up of many sects that have varying beliefs. So you have to target the right people and get them not make blanket statements and blind aggression. If Mormons were attacking lets say Buddhists and Buddhists were blaming all Christians for it would that be fair? Methodists and Catholics had nothing to do with it.
If you feel so strongly about it join the military and make a difference.

Not true, I respect a lot of Christians in the US, there are many liberal Christians fighting to end poverty, wars, etc. Even if they don't all shout and condemn Pat Robertson or abortion-doctor shootings in unison - I kind of assume they object to these things as all sensible people do.
We libs almost take care to talk about the "Christian right" or "Christian radicals" or "Christian fundamentalists." I rarely hear talk about the "radical Muslim right" even though that is what Wahhabism represents in many muslim countries, one particular extreme viewpoint.
I'm sorry every muslim in the world hasn't personally condemned the 9/11 attacks to your face, that must really come as a slap into the face for you. And obviously you have a right to question their loyalties and motives when they haven't personally apologized to you for the attacks carried out by people who happen to share the same religion as them.

You would think that Christians might be doing this - 'turning the other cheek'. But for some reason it's become a political stance. There's no sense to it. I've looked at the polls and fortunately, these ultra left liberals that are in favor of the mosque are in the minority.
@ Cryst. At least Christians aren't trying to spread their faith through violence. Maybe in the past, but not in this day and age.

Both are ignorant assumptions made by ignorant minds.
We should not blame every member of a religion for the acts of a few.

When someone holds all conservatives responsible for Pat Robertson, you hold all liberals responsible for that person?

This is why I try to distance myself from religion and religous debates all together.

You're right. Everyone's equal and should be treated equally. And we should TRY not to generalize about liberals or conservatives. Like you're doing.
