Are there cash crops in ag today?
At one time some years ago, I had a conversation with a farmer that grew cranberry's. He said the berries were a good cash crop where he could net half a million dollars a season with 25 acres in cranberry's. I understand that's no longer the case, but are there crops that are still considered "cash crops" in today's market ?

You mean legal ones, I guess. There are some illegal ones that can be very profitable. But then there is a risk factor.
Tobacco has a pretty high return if you have the appropriate land for it. You can make a real good living on a 40 acre farm if you have a tobacco allotment.
Organic vegetables and herbs can be a good profit-maker if you have a market for them. Lots of work if you don't use pesticides, but it can definitely be done.
As for most traditional crops, I'm afraid that we can't possibly compete with the big corporations.
If anybody knows something legal that can be grown in northern Arkansas for even a small profit, I would sure like to hear about it.
