Hello there,
Not a lot of help. The Model 49 Bodyguard was introduced in 1959. I don't know of any on-liee data bases that you can search the serial number. You can always request the history from S&W. They charge $50 for that service.

Perhaps your number is J94xxx? If so it was made in 1969 or 1970. I can't find any guns begining with 9j Recheck your serial#
