I haven't really played with 2010, but I'm sure it's not much different than 2007. Funny thing is, I just took a class (last year) on how to fully use MS 2007 haha! Stupid Microsoft. But go for 2007. Wait till they get all of the bugs out of 2010 (if any). I do not know a single person with 2010 yet

    From personal experience:

2003 is easier and faster to use.

    I prefer 2003.

{Since I mess around with macros a lot, I find it easier to have my macros in 2003.

2007/2010 reads the 2003 macro file, and use the macros.

    But saving a macro in 2007/2010, converts the macro file to that format, and 2003 can't read it anymore.}

2007 is much more difficult to use.

It is more advanced, but Microsoft decided to hide commonly used commands in obscure places.

You can not modify the toolbars (ribbon.)

2010 is pretty much like 2007.

    BUT

You can modify the ribbon: Create your own tabs, and groups.

If I need to do something quickly, I use 2003.

If I need to use something not available in 2003, I switch to 2010.

2007, I just use for macro testing purposes.

Whatever you are most comfortable with, is the better option for you.

Your brother probably knows 2003 inside out, he is familiar with it, so it is the best for him.

You can tell him, 2010 is better than 2007, but it retains 2003's customization.

2007 or 2010 would obviously be better

but if i had 2003 or 2007 i wouldn't pay for 2007/2010 that would just seem like a waste of money to me.

Dudes stick with 2003 once they start using it 'cause it seems simple for them and the outloook of 2007 is completely different. I'm sure your brother is older to you cause even my father preffered using 2003 over 2007. However you can have both the versions installed. Personally I think 2007's the best.

I prefer 2007 but i can fully understand why someone wouldn't want to change.

The whole ribbon thing is a big difference to how previous editions of word have laid out tools and menus.

To me 2007 (and on) is more logical and natural to use but for someone who is used to the layout of 2003 and is perfectly happy with the functionality then why would they change?

Just because a new version of something comes out, it doesn't mean you are obliged to install it. If you are happy with the way things work then there is no need to change. It doesn't mean he's stupid ;)

Its simple. Click Ms-Office logo and over your mouse to Save as(or click the arrow of save as) and select word 97-3003 Document. OR use this shortcut press F12 and select word 97-2003 document in "save as type"(below the file name). Done. regards..
