Does this Taekwondo school look legit to you?

I've got a buddy who trains here and he's advancing really fast and it seems a little too fast to me. He also seems to be sloppy when he does forms and he shows off a lot which to me shows a lack of mental training which is just as important as the physical. Here's the website if it helps:

@Random Dude

Yeah? Burbank or Granada Hills?

    Actually you just describe Tae Kwon Do in a nutshell and it has been that way since the 1960's. Quick belt promotions, high rank claims and sloppy technique with no core principles. There are some TKD systems left that are still good but this place does not look like one of them.

    Signs that a school isn't very good. I have experienced all of these in the different classes I've taken.

    a) more belts than the norm. This is a sign they want to have more belt tests and make more money.

    b) you advance too fast. If belts of that school can't match up against equal belts of other schools at tournaments, then somethings wrong.

    c) They try to pressure you to sign a contract that is actually a loan. You effectively take out a loan for a set amount for the full year and then pay it off over that year as monthly payments. ie, we don't trust you and have this set up so we can get all the money at once.

    d) They hurt you on accident. I took a karate class and the instructor broke my rib the 2nd week I was there. I was wearing a chest pad and he had a foot pad. For a 3rd Dan, he didn't have any control.

    e) They hurt you on purpose. Outside of sparing. nuff said.

    f) Any time you ask for clarification or help, they tell you to pay for a private lesson.

    g) They won't let you watch a class without signing a contract. They don't want you to see the class before forcing you into it?

    h) the people in the class tend to be bullies. This shows the lack of discipline (amoung other things)

    There are others, but eh...

    But these aren't fool proof clues. I was in a school that seemed ok. But then the owner sold the school, took all the money that people had prepaid (pay less for a full year at once) and disappeared. If I ever see that guy, I'll uh... wave. Because he's a 9th degree black belt and could kill me with his little toe.

    It's legit, but maybe not the best - I can't tell from their website. Their website is lousy, so it's hard to tell much more than where they are located.

    It's a WTF school, so it's common to see sloppy forms - but he had better be passing muster as a sparrer. A good WTF school would put the brakes on advancement and work on the attitude.
