Stevie Yzerman Doing a great job?
It seems that most great players in the NHL (Gretyzky specifically) don't turn out as good office people, yet it seems Yzerman is doing a great job with the lightning. Your thoughts on what he has done?
Ps. Don't use Bylsma as and example against me because he was not very successful at all in the NHL...
Boblaw, Phoenix made the playoffs the year Gretzky left, and there beyond Wolski and Stempniak there where realatively no big changes to the team. Plus they both came around the trade deadline, so most of the work was already done.

Lets wait until we see how the on ice product performs before passing judgment.
I agree that star players don't usually make the best coaches or GMs usually but we always forget an important one in these discussions.
Jacques Lemaire was a pretty good player. 835 pts in 853 games played
Not a bad coach either. The same could be said for his teammate Bob Gainey

Not sure how you can say that since his record is 0-0 as an NHL GM. Sure, it SEEMS he is doing a great job....but I think TB is set up with a good nucleus to begin with. Sure, he added Gagne but it was a salary dump for Philly and if he takes one big hit then all of the sudden it wasn't such a good trade....he's a rental too. He too managed to get rid of a contract (Meszaros), ironically to Philly BUT this is a player with huge upside and the deal could look like a steal for Philly if he plays like the player from Ottawa, not the player from TB and he is only 24....it's a risky move, one that could backfire. Ramo for Desjardins is what it is, not significant at this point. Kubina was a decent signing I suppose.
The biggest issue was in goal and I am not sure that Dan Ellis is the answer.
I think he has done an admirable job BUT it is much too early to evaluate it I think. The difference between him and Gretzky is that his situation heading in is brighter to begin with...the Coyotes didn't have the nucleus to succeed.
Lots of great players have transformed into great front office staff as well. Bobby Clarke and Bob Gainey had some very successful teams......Mario Lemieux is also considered front office for the Pens. If you are counting coaches (Blysma) then the list is even bigger with someone like Jacques Lemaire leading the way.
