What happened to my battery?

Yesterday, I installed a new hard drive, and a new OS onto it. Today I'm noticing my battery has a warning about replacing the battery, sudden shutdowns may occur. Now, did I mess something up installing the hard drive or OS (maybe a driver I missed or something)? Or is my timing so good, it just so happens I have to replace my battery?

Update:

My battery is plugged in with 95% charged, but it is giving me this warning still.

there are programs that test the battery to give u an indication of the useful life they have left.

this one BatteryOptimizer will produce a report Power efficiency diagnostic report that will give u more info than u want, but this is what is important.

    Battery:Battery Information

Battery ID 10041 MSI Corp. MS-1004

    Manufacturer MSI Corp.

    Serial Number 10041

    Chemistry LION

    Long Term 1

    Design Capacity 63360

    Last Full Charge 59227

If Last Full Charge is much lower than Design Capacity it is nearing end of life.

It sounds like u were running on battery and it was near dead which is why it told u to change the battery - it should have given u another option to plug it in.

Normally it warns you about sudden shutting down when the battery is super flat whilst not being plugged into the mains, Was it plugged in and charging?

If not you could have a dead battery, a faulty charger or just a battery that needs a real good charge

When you got the new hard drive and the new OS, did you read what battery any of them take?If the hard drive and theOS didn't except your battery that you had ,get the battery that the hard drive and the OS requires. If not, take your laptop to a computer repair shop. Or takeit to Staples or Best Buy Geek Squad department. They can help you , Or take the hard drive and the OS where you got them and talk to someone who works at the section where you got them. He/she can help you.
